Building Balance – Solutions for Change! ⚖️
Congratulations to Helen James and the Women in Property South West for hosting such an insightful and thought-provoking event yesterday! 🎉
Members of Morgan Civil and Structural, Andrew Griffiths and Emma Burman, had the opportunity to attend the Building Balance – Solutions for Change event, where we explored the challenges of achieving work-life balance and the real impact of flexible working in our industry.
Helen James led the discussion, sharing the findings of a survey inspired by her own experience. A panel of experts sparked engaging conversations about the systemic barriers faced and how, as an industry, although changes are being made, we need to do better in fostering inclusivity and flexibility.
It’s clear that achieving balance isn’t just a personal struggle—it’s a collective challenge that affects recruitment, retention, and workplace culture. Following the presentation and panel discussion, attendees took part in a workshop to identify key barriers and explore actionable solutions. The discussions were filled with energy and passion, highlighting a shared commitment within the industry to drive real change. To make a meaningful impact, it was agreed that we must:
✅ Acknowledge the real needs of carers and employees
✅ Create policies that are genuinely flexible and inclusive
✅ Lead by example, from the top down - including at middle management level
✅ Ensure transparency when advertising roles and benefits
✅ Inspire the next generation by engaging with schools and outreach programs to promote a more inclusive future
We left with a host of actionable ideas to drive change within our own business. Now, it’s time to put them into practice!🚀
