13th February marks the arrival of 2 new products for Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers. 🥃 We have Mac-Talla Virgin Oak which is a no-age-statement expression that offers a uniquely sweet and smoky whisky experience. Fully matured in a combination of bourbon barrels and #4 Char Virgin American oak casks from Kelvin Cooperage in Kentucky, this whisky represents a harmonious marriage of two distinct cask types, which has been further enriched by a final period of maturation in Virgin Oak barrels. The result is a whisky that is unlike any other in the Mac-Talla range. This expression is bottled at 53.8% abv and retails at £74 at select retailers across the UK, Europe, Australia, Israel and Japan. We also have a new Old Perth 2009 Vintage featuring a captivating combination of three distinct sherry casks: First Fill Oloroso Sherry Cask, Second Fill Oloroso Sherry Cask, & First Fill PX Sherry Cask. The rich, deep flavours imparted by these casks have resulted in a whisky that is bold, complex, and layered with indulgent notes of dried fruit, spice, and a touch of nutty richness. Bottled at 53.6% and only 1482 available, making it a unique and delicious whisky to add to your Old Perth collection at a very reasonable £98. 🥃 INTRODUCING OLD PERTH SOLERA 🥃 17th October 2024, Aberargie, Scotland – We are proud to announce the launch of our new limited edition release: Old Perth Solera. This exceptional whisky showcases the blenders distinctive approach to whisky creation, using an original 70-year-old bodega sherry cask solera system. Old Perth celebrates the rich history of sherry cask maturation, using 100% sherry maturation in every bottle. As Perth was known as the blending capital of the world, this is the perfect location for them to be situated, being the forgotten whisky city.   Old Perth Solera is a whisky like no other, crafted using a Solera system that harkens back to an era of sherry maturation that is seldom seen today. The Solera system, commonly used in sherry production, involves fractional blending – a perpetual cycle of maturation that enriches the whisky with each pass. At Old Perth, this system combines ancient ex-bodega solera butts that have matured traditional styles of sherry for nearly 70 years with quality second-fill Oloroso sherry butts.   The solera butts used to create Old Perth Solera are not just any casks. Originating in Jerez, these ex-bodega casks once held Oloroso sherry – a dry, nutty, and complex sherry with subtle fruity undertones. After maturing sherry for around 70 years, these precious casks have spent the last two years in Old Perth's solera system, adding to their already rich history.   These huge casks can hold 680 litres, and their delicate nature presents challenges. At this age, the casks require extra care, and their tendency to leak results in higher-than-expected losses. It was an exciting opportunity to engage with such a captive crowd and share our passion for good quality whisky. The spotlight was on the newly launched Old Perth Double Sherry Wood, which made its debut on Friday. We were thrilled to receive such positive feedback from those amongst the first to taste it at the show. OLD PERTH Double Sherry Wood 48.2% ABV RRP £45 Production Director at Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers Ltd, Graeme Mackeddie, created a whisky with a rich PX influence on the palate. "Where Old Perth Original and Old Perth Cask Strength focus on maturation in Oloroso sherry butts and hogsheads for a rich, spicy and robust experience, Old Perth Double Sherry Wood introduces PX sherry butts and hogsheads to the existing Old Perth recipe. The result is a slightly softer, sweeter drinking experience. On the nose Double Sherry Wood offers bright, vibrant notes of sweet red berries. On the palate it is soft and sweet, with dried fruits, gentle spice and malty undertones. It is a whisky that will reward the patient drinker, with time in the glass (and a drop of water if you like)! Opening up layers of complexity driven by the different cask types."
