  • To support this year’s ‘Taking Action’ campaign for International Women’s Day, our Insurance Operations and Proposition Manager Rebecca Marland interviewed inspiring women across MO on behalf of the Gender Network, discussing how they’ve taken action in their careers. Through powerful, candid conversations, Kelly-Jane Botha, Emma Courtney, Karen King, Kirsty Keck, Becky Keizer, and Maria Curwood shared their experiences of driving change and breaking barriers in the workplace. Sian Robinson, Gender Network Lead, said: “This mini-series is a real inspiration. By sharing stories, we can break down workplace barriers, empower ourselves, and celebrate the incredible female talent we have at MO. Huge thanks to Rebecca and our guests for being involved.” The series is available for all employees to watch throughout March and beyond. #IWD #InternationalWomensDay #TakingAction

  • We’re delighted to support Scottish Disability Sport Parasport Festivals this year and will be on hand be explain how the Motability Scheme connects people to freedom and independence throughout the month! Last week, school children at the Tayside Festival in Dundee had a go at a variety of sports including football, badminton, boccia, frame running and all-ability cycling to name a few. It was great to see the amazing work of SDS in action and so many smiles from the children! Our team are looking forward to the upcoming Parasport Festivals running this month throughout different locations in Scotland where we can share more information on how the Motability Scheme can change lives.

  • We help customers decide between our wide range of vehicle types and adaptations, ensuring they make the best choice for their needs. More of our customers are now choosing an electric vehicle than ever before and last year the number of customers driving an EV doubled to 70,000. We know that some of our customers face barriers as the UK switches to EVs and working with partners and the wider industry on a range of innovation projects designed to address these challenges. Hear from Patricia, a Motability Scheme customer as she shares her experience with her electric vehicle. ⚡

The UK’s shift to electric vehicles is underway, and we’re making sure our customers’ needs and accessibility are at the heart of the journey. By listening to our customers and understanding their needs, we’re helping to shape an EV transition that works for all. Right now, we have 35,000 customers use a wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) on the Scheme. Through the eVITA project we’ve been working to promote inclusive design for electric WAVs to help ensure that 1.2 million wheelchair users in the UK are able to join the EV transition if they need a WAV in the future. Working with our converter partners, electric WAVs are already available on the Scheme and we’re working with them to offer even more options in the future – which is where our suppliers come in. My colleagues James Horne and Sukhi Clark attended Kia’s Global EV Day this week for the launch of the PV5, which could offer opportunities for our customers who have a WAV on the Scheme to go electric. Kia has been a valued supplier to the Motability Scheme for many decades and since launching the eVITA concept last year, we have been working with them to think about the future of electric WAVs. The PV5 could be a step forward for accessibility and we’re working with Kia and our converter partners about how the PV5 could join the Scheme in the future. More than 800,000 disabled people rely on the Motability Scheme, and we know from our customers that charging— both at home and in public— is a key barrier to choosing an EV. That’s why we’re working with partners to find real solutions. We recently submitted a joint response with Motability Foundation to the Government’s Zero Emission Vehicle Mandate consultation to ensure our customers’ voices shape future policies on the transition to electric vehicles. We’re also focused on securing the future of electric Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (eWAVs). To achieve this, we need to work with industry and policymakers to prevent regulations that could unintentionally discourage manufacturers from producing essential vehicle bases. The transition is happening now. We’re ready to collaborate with the public and private sectors to ensure it’s a success.

We're doing more to communicate about how pressure the automotive industry experiences affects the Motability Scheme and our customers. That’s why we work with industry partners to help break down key market trends and provide greater clarity on the factors shaping the car market today. We spoke with Marc Palmer, Head of Strategy & Insights at Auto Trader UK, to break down the key market trends and what they could mean in the months ahead. Ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Scheme remains our priority, and we’re committed to keeping customers informed as we navigate these industry-wide challenges together.
