Just Completed: IFF Research IFF's recent move from a Thames-side office to Cat A+ workspace in Borough raised concerns about people's desire to get back to the office, so they partnered with Motive to reignite a sense of belonging. IFF are a market research agency who illuminate issues that demand scrutiny, from government policy to social impact. Their new space aimed to celebrate IFF’s values and mission in its entirety. London bricks engraved with their values – the building blocks of their success - emotive street photography, and a vintage phone installation reinforced their connection to people and research. Their hand-painted timeline emphasises their ‘Human First’ ethos and gold-leafed beliefs in the boardroom represent the uniqueness in each individual and each project. Even their ever-popular foosball table integrated IFF’s ‘Rules of the Game,’ immersing employees in their way of life. Historic research papers line the hallway alongside a portable neon logo, adaptable for events and video shoots. The breakout area features bespoke paintings of IFF’s favourite pubs, a nod to their well-travelled history and camaraderie. What began as a logistical move is now a living tribute to IFF’s purpose and London roots - sparking a cultural revival and boosting occupancy from 25% to 95%. • This is what we do it for! Wonderful to hear Nick's story of the anxiety behind heading back into office-based work for the 1st time in years, and finding a home in what we designed for Ezra.

  • Our project last year for a worldwide publishing house wasn't without it's pitfalls, but you've got to keep riding the waves to get what's best for the project and the client 🏄♂️

Cancelled. Sadly projects don’t always go to plan. Days of conceptualising and bringing to life incredible ideas often end up with nothing to show. Sometimes even after its been hung on the wall work can be x’d out. We wanted to share our heartbreak and shed some light on a couple of pieces we worked on a large project last year that ended up in a client’s ‘archive’ due to not getting clearance for the original photographs used as inspiration for these works. Overly cautious? Perhaps. But the client didn’t want to risk their professional relationships, so sadly these glorious interpretations of Jada Sezer and Daniel Craig are now hidden away. Dizzee somehow found its way home to Motive HQ 👀

  • Why Tho? Episode 1 - Faculty Here it is, the first ep in a series where founder Rob Venice talks through why we did what we did in some of our milestone projects. This short insight into the work we did and continue to do with Faculty touches on a few of the key elements of Faculty's reason for being and how we translated that into tangible pieces and a holistic design. So short in fact we definitely missed out some key features 😅 The desperation to wrap on our first time in front of the camera was real. Enjoy, lemme know what you'd like to see more of. I'll be hiding until we shoot the next one ✌

Extremely proud to announce that Motive have won Gold and Silver in this year's BETTER FUTURE Awards London Design Awards for our Tide and Faculty projects. Huge congratulations also to AIS, MFive Consulting, Soul Spaces and Alexandra Humphreys. A lot of thought, love and tight knit collaboration went into both of these, so I couldn't be happier that both have been recognised at this level. Multi award winning baby!!

  • When it comes to our collaborations, none have ever meant so much. 3 months ago saw the marriage of Rob Venice and Daniela Venice and we couldn’t have been more proud to work so closely with the queen of disco dimensions Cherilyn Yeates on curating the aesthetic for the day. Motive have long been fans of Chez’s ‘portals’; otherworldly paintings that feel like physical interpretations of that warm feeling of nostalgia, curating her work in multiple projects. We were beyond moved that we could work with such a special talent on transforming her signature 2D work into the multidimensional gateway that helped make the day so powerful and unique. Go check out Chez’s work to get absorbed into the not so distant glow of the weekend: www.cherilynyeates.com

  • Giving a new 'lease' of life to Faculty's workspace with the aid of Ludacris' mantra

“You have to keep changing and evolving” Ludacris told me, via Vibe magazine, more years ago than I care to mention, where a simple rule for longevity became embedded in my mind. You cannot stand still. That’s the kiss of death. With leases becoming shorter and shorter and more flex space being taken than ever, tenant attraction is one thing, but client retention is now more important than ever. In that 3-5 year period where a tenant is safely housed, what goes on in that company? And what's being done in those in-between times to aid a tenant's journey? They grow, perhaps shrink, change their game plan, maybe even their name, rebrand, assess the effectiveness of both clients and employees, try to cultivate or retain culture, put in place methods to stir up inspiration and innovation and ensure people’s sense of belonging is as strong as ever. During any or all of those events, what is done to reflect the change of course in their working environment? For those companies to keep/get people on board, their values, mission, and motive must be present in the everyday physical environment to enable their team to all row in the same direction. For landlords with tenants at the end of their leases, for agents and PMs that want to retain positive relationships, for tenants in dire need of an upgrade, for fit-out firms put out because a tenant moved into pre-fitted space… why wait another 3+ years to get back involved? I’ve spent my lifetime, or at least since Ludacris’ first album, developing an understanding of brand, strategy, ownership, culture and belonging, so whatever change your client is going through, don’t wait years to come to their aid and get us involved. Disrupt the cycle, keep clients on board, empower them, and give those spaces a new lease of life.
