Colleagues in our Transportation team recently used one of their Giving Back Days to volunteer at the Fields Millennium Green Trust which maintains a community greenspace local to their current project. Fields Millennium Green is semi-natural, with grasslands, woodland, an orchard, a natural play area and is a valuable community resource in an area of high social and economic deprivation. Over the course of the day our colleagues focused on enhancing the community park by replacing damaged and missing gravel boards along pathways and assisting with general upkeep. The day was both productive and rewarding, with each activity contributing to the park's appearance and accessibility. Maggie Sweet, Volunteer Coordinator at the Fields Millennium Green Trust: “Thank you so much to the Murphy team for their hard work. The greenspace is highly valued by the community as an area where they can enjoy nature, walk their dogs and take children to play. Without groups such as Murphy visiting, our trust would find it impossible to keep the site clean, safe to walk around, and looking attractive. The Murphy team was so pleasant and enthusiastic to work with, and we look forward to keeping in touch and hopefully working with them again in the future.” #OneMurphy #MoretoMurphy #communityengagement #givingback Karen Scott Sarah Elizabeth Barnes Dawn Moore

Our team at Downs Park Road bridge replacement project for Network Rail used the half-term holiday to transform the gardens of next door neighbour Stormont House Special School in Hackney.    We cleared an overgrown area before building brick flower beds, re-installing timber beds and procuring new benches for the children to enjoy their new surroundings.    Next on the list is a site visit for the children to learn about the opportunities in our industry! #OneMurphy #MoretoMurphy @Chris Cayton, @Gesh Chapatarongo, @Lisa Egan

“I enjoyed meeting people from Murphy and seeing the type of jobs they do in a company with a bright future for young people that want an apprenticeship.”   Our SSEN Transmission team in Alness recently hosted a day of learning for young people (ages 16-18) participating in Barnardo’s Works 'Access to Trades' course in Inverness and the Highlands. Barnardo’s Works Highlands & Islands is a partnership between Barnardo's Scotland and employers, combining personal support, accredited training and quality work experience to prepare young people for sustainable employment. Neillian Rodger, Social Value Coordinator, said; “It was our absolute pleasure to welcome the students, they really did themselves proud, tackling the activities with energy and gusto. The activities allowed them to gain hands on experience of several roles within our industry and highlighted how many skills are transferrable. We're proud to play a part in their journey, and I look forward to seeing how they apply what they've learned in their future careers.” If you, or someone you know, is interested in a career with us here at Murphy, please check out our new website to find out more: https://lnkd.in/eiUwXNUX #OneMurphy #MoretoMurphy Mark Williams MAPM, Neillian Rodger

Our team has been busy decommissioning high voltage cables along the Grand Union canal in northwest London as part of National Grid Electricity Transmission’s project to add a new data centre connection between the Willesden and Kensal Green substations.   Nearly 3km of cable has been safely removed from site using barges and bespoke equipment to cut the cable into manageable lengths for transport.   Well done team!   To read more about the project, please visit: https://lnkd.in/ejf4eafX   #OneMurphy #MoretoMurphy

Congratulations to our HOCHTIEF-MURPHY Joint Venture (HMJV) colleagues working on the London Power Tunnels Phase 2 who were awarded the ‘Utility Project of the Year’ at the British Construction Industry Awards 2024! The judges were impressed by the exemplary collaboration, innovative working methods, and impressive carbon reduction figures whilst maintaining high client satisfaction, showcasing effective planning and execution: "It exemplifies best practices in outcome-driven performance, on-time and to-cost delivery, and stakeholder benefits." The Team was also recognised earlier this month at the Inspiring Women in Construction and Engineering Awards (IWCE) with the “Excellence in Mental Health and Wellbeing Award” - the judges commended all the creative initiatives rolled out within the London Power Tunnels Phase 2 project as well as the strong connections and support provided to the communities and charities along the project route.   This brings the tally up to 17 awards for the HMJV Team, showcasing the outstanding dedication, consistent hard work and commitment from everyone. #OneMurphy #MoretoMurphy #HMJV #LPT2 #construction #engineering Chiara Cappelletti

Murphy is pleased to have supported our Client ESB Networks in restoring electricity supply to customers impacted by Storm Ashley last week. Our crews and supply chain partners went over and above to provide a timely emergency response throughout County Mayo, clearing network faults in the aftermath of the storm.   ESB OHL Framework Manager Damien McCurry said: “The ESB are very grateful for the Murphy team’s quick response and excellent performance of the work crews in difficult conditions.” Do you have what it takes to join our team? Murphy is currently recruiting Lineworkers for LV, MV & HV projects in Ireland.
