The MuseumINSIDER team is even more excited about IMCC 2024 in Edinburgh later this year! Congratulations Ann! ⭐
MuseumINSIDER is the source of market intelligence for the museums and heritage sector. Publisher and editor, Ann Curtis has been an integral part of the International Museum Construction Congress passionately supporting the event for years. Recently, she transitioned from Planning Committee to Steering Committee Member, a move that exemplifies her dedication to driving forward the mission of the IMCC. Thank you Ann! We look forward to reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting new museum professionals this year in Edinburgh! 🏴 🙌 Early bird registration coming soon. ➡️ "IMCC continues to be the best museum conference I attend every year, and it improves each year, too! The combination of a manageable number of delegates, informative sessions, lots of networking opportunities and stimulating conference venues and site visits, make it a memorable highlight of my year. I think there is as much to learn from the informal networking that takes place on the site visits and break out sessions as there is during the more formal presentations. The audience is highly experienced and shares knowledge willingly and they contribute a great deal to the overall success of the congress. I look forward to Edinburgh next year!" https://bit.ly/3rTnIS2 . #IMCC2024 #museum #leadership #conference #networking #museumleadership #museumbuilding #museumarchitecture #culturalprojects #mandriergroup #mandriermeetings #Edinburgh #SteeringCommittee #museumplanning #museumdevelopment

👀 Last week, the Smithsonian Institution held a Supplier Session for Exhibit firms classed as small businesses as part of their brilliant Supplier Diversity initiative. 🤝 The session gave an overview of how to do business with The Smithsonian and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. It was incredibly useful, and we didn't want our higher-level subscribers to miss out on the valuable market intelligence from the session! 📖 So, we produced a report about the session, with information about key contacts, contracts and other opportunities coming up in 2024. To find out more, get in touch with Mandy Smith or Adam E. Badenhorst. Or visit the link below. https://lnkd.in/esCrSYCB #exhibitiondesign #exhibition #smithsonian #museum

Yesterday was Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the US, celebrating the activist’s fight for racial equality in the 1960s. The National Park Service is working on rehabilitating historic buildings at the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park. Over the last few months, we have published various tenders for the National Park Service’s project to rehabilitate various historic buildings at the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park, including his birthplace. Yesterday, we highlighted a sources sought notice for the rehabilitation of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park visitor centre and headquarters building. These initiatives are not just about preserving a site but an effort to keep alive the stories of nonviolent activism and the struggle for civil rights. The National Park Service manages many sites of brutal violence and historic significance to the Civil Rights Movement, including the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail, the Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument and the Freedom Riders National Monument in Alabama, keeping alive these stories of sacrifice and inspiration. In a parallel development, the Fermanagh & Omagh District Council in Northern Ireland is working to create a Peace Park in Omagh, County Tyrone, the site of the deadliest incident during The Troubles. This incident, a car bombing by an IRA splinter group in 1998, resulted in tragic loss of life and numerous injuries. Now, a proposed Peace Park is envisioned as a space of unity and remembrance, a testament to resilience in the face of violence. Both projects underscore the power of museums and heritage sites as spaces for reckoning with our pasts and healing. They serve as poignant reminders of our collective history, offering insights and tools for fostering dialogue around violent and traumatic histories while giving visitors space for their own experiences. We thought these two initiatives were both unique opportunities for museum and heritage sector professionals to engage in work that is not only about conservation but also about educating, reflecting, and healing. 👀 "The British Museum has today set out plans to increase access to the collection, and ensure everything is documented and available online. 🇺🇸 The U.S. government shutdown was temporarily averted at the end of September. 🌳 When a government shutdown happens, it impacts everything from the FDA to the National Park Service. It also affects major museums like the Smithsonian Institution, though it can remain in operation with non-government funding. 🔒 The last government shutdown in 2018 lasted 34 days, costing the U.S. economy $11 billion. 💡 This got the team at MuseumINSIDER thinking about the impacts a shutdown might have on our museum and heritage suppliers working with federally-funded sites. So, we put together a guide to help prepare for a potential shutdown. 🔍 Our researchers find work from state, federal and NGO sources and multiple regions worldwide. So, a government shutdown doesn't mean disaster - but it's always better to be prepared!
