Combatting Poverty - Preventing Homelessness

About us

We believe in a Greater Manchester where everyone has the opportunity to be a connected, valued and contributing member of society. Since 1994, Mustard Tree has transformed the lives of people in Greater Manchester who are trapped in poverty or homelessness, by enabling them to gain the skills and self-confidence they need to reach their full potential. Our focus is on tackling both the causes and consequences of poverty by offering: • Provision: When people are in crisis we offer food, clothing and furniture. By meeting their basic needs we establish a relationship of trust and open the door of welcome, hope and possibility. • Progression: We offer life-skills, training, volunteering, education, mentoring and employment opportunities to help people to increase their resilience and enable them to escape poverty and homelessness – for good. • Partnership: We work collaboratively with our beneficiaries, enabling them to contribute to the Mustard Tree Community and work with them to set self-determined goals, as well as working with individuals, agencies, businesses and community groups to broker long-term solutions to the poverty and inequality in our city.

From training to donating… Thinc is warming up for Wilmslow Running Festival! 🏃 Our people have been going the extra mile – and not just those who’ve signed up for the 10k and half-marathon distances. Our whole team has been collecting for the Mustard Tree Food Club in the run-up to race day. Mustard Tree is a Manchester-based charity that helps improve the economic wellbeing of people in the area through providing food, furniture, clothing, support and training. We're delighted to be contributing to their great cause. On to the big day, Sunday 23 March, it'll all be about amplifying the human spirit! Our team had the best time volunteering this week with our nominated charity, Mustard Tree. From stacking shelves at their community grocery store, to supporting students with their English language lessons, and delivering furniture packs from the warehouse, everyone got stuck in. Mustard Tree plays a vital role in tackling poverty and homelessness across Greater Manchester, and we’re proud to support them however we can. Check out the video to see the team in action. 👇 #SocialValue #CommunityImpact #Volunteering #Teams #community #support #greatermanchester #homlessness

Last week I spent a day volunteering at Mustard Tree where I got to see firsthand the incredible work they do to combat poverty and homelessness in Manchester. Mustard tree could easily be mistaken for being a much larger organisation when taking in their ‘one stop shop’ approach. Not only do they have a food and clothes shop, but also toiletries, decor and furniture. They run a cafe, where you can drop in for a coffee and a cake (which I enjoyed during my day.) Alongside this, they run a range of classes such as CV building, employment support, Art, creative writing and classes focused around career confidence. Mustard Tree is a true representation of the power of Manchester’s community- please take a look at their donation page: https://lnkd.in/eY3BtxBc 🌳💛

Mustard Tree's February 2025 - "𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘀" 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆 - Yes, that's right, we saw exactly 𝟭𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 in February. If we had a bell, I'd ring it. In addition to registering 𝟰𝟲𝟭 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, our Support Team met with 𝟰𝟰𝟴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 for appointments, support, triage, crisis-donations and interventions. This is the most in our 30+ year history, in the shortest month. To put that demand into perspective, in February 2023, Mustard Tree had 𝟯𝟯 support appointments, and in February 2024 had 𝟮𝟰𝟭. That's a 𝟭𝟯𝘅 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲 in monthly demand in two years. 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 - 𝟲𝟭 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗧𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 marks a positive increase, the highest number of homes furnished since July 2024. And this is despite a broken van! February was a month of celebrating art in Salford, with several workshops, exhibitions and pop ups. We welcomed 𝟮𝟵 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 onto our Freedom Project, whilst celebrating the graduation of 𝟭𝟬 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝘀 with cakes and treats and speeches. 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽 - Can you partner with us for the new financial year in April, through fundraising, donations, volunteering and placements? Can you come in for a tour, see our work, and meet our community in person? Or - and bare with me here - can you donate £10,000 to mark our 10k month? Partner and donate now: https://lnkd.in/eBGqnZks

Building Outstanding Leadership Teams | Executive Search | Founder of Neemar Search | Podcast Host of the Housing Collective

Neemar Search is taking on the Manchester Half Marathon! This May, several members of our team are lacing up and hitting the pavement for the Manchester Half Marathon in support of our new partner Mustard Tree. Through the Mustard Tree's Freedom Project, we are supporting a programme designed to empower individuals facing significant life challenges. This initiative provides comprehensive life skills and work readiness training, specifically targeting those experiencing homelessness by equipping them with the essential tools, support, and opportunities needed to rebuild their lives and unlock their full potential. In the meantime, I have no doubt you'll see some hilarious training updates, potential dramatic mid-run selfies, and definitely some "I can't feel my legs" posts in the coming months from Dave Russell! Any donations would be greatly appreciated and the Just Giving Page is in the link in the comments

I am super proud to be an official ‘Friend of Mustard Tree’ 🧡 🌳   Mustard Tree are an amazing Manchester-based charity that works to combat poverty and prevent homelessness.  Mustard Tree create opportunities to help improve economic wellbeing and find settled homes. They do this through community shops, training placements, support services, gifting schemes, vocational training and creative classes – offering a consistent, warm welcome to all. 🤗   I recently worked with Elle Chamberlain (Assoc CIPD) (HR Manager) to put together the content for an Interview Skills Workshop for their Freedom Trainees.  Last week, I helped deliver this session to an amazing group of Trainees who will now be better equipped to prepare for and shine in their interviews.     As part of my volunteering, I will also be supporting people with their job searches and CV writing, as part of their weekly ‘Job Club’.   It is a great feeling to be able to put some of my recruitment experience to good use (aside from the day job!) and provide a little helping hand.     To find out more about Mustard Tree and how you can get involved, please visit their website: https://lnkd.in/eQcMJDZZ #interviewskills #training #charity #manchester #hrnetwork
