The IOA 50th anniversary bash at Bletchley Park occurred yesterday, there were some interesting inputs about the history and development of BS4142. One of the latter presentations from Mark Dowie and his attempts to objectify psychoacoustics I found quite profound. Being, I suspect, one of the people with the least technical experience in the room, I asked a few people on what they thought the effect of AI on acoustics would be. The replies were the all the same "AI cannot replace the subjective ear of an experienced acoustician". But as was demonstrated, the acoustic industry is making fast progress in eliminating subjectivity from its processes and most good consultative studies are completely objectified. Food for thought perhaps and my thanks to all those who put up with my relentless questioning. In the meantime, enjoy the 'Bombe' from Bletchley, regarded as the worlds first computer.
