  • If more girls were able to explore their interest in tech, we might have more women in the industry. That’s why we created the #CyberFirst Girls’ Competition. To help turn their curiosity into a future career in cyber security. Teams of up to four girls in Year 8 (England and Wales), S2 (Scotland) or Year 9 (Northern Ireland) will tackle a range of challenges – from cryptography and logic to artificial intelligence and networking – for the chance to be crowned regional champions. Plus, everyone in the winning team will take home a brand-new laptop and they might even win a cash prize for their school too. Find out more and apply today⬇️ #CyberMonth2024

Here’s to many more years of applying the finest technical expertise to cyber threats! As her tenure as our CEO comes to an end, Felicity Oswald OBE has written a special blog post reflecting on the journey we’ve been on as an organisation over these past 8 years, where we are now and what comes next. Today is the start of Cyber Security Awareness Month, an initiative which began in the US 20 years ago and has grown to become international in scope. Its original purpose was for public and private sectors to work together to raise awareness about the importance of cyber security, and this very much aligns with the National Cyber Security Centre's own collaborative ethos.   To mark this 21st Cyber Security Awareness Month, the NCSC will be promoting the importance for organisations of raising their resilience. On our social media channels, you’ll be seeing lots of advice for organisations about how to do this, using our online tools and guidance. Cyber security professionals on the NCSC’s collaborative CISP platform will notice a dedicated area featuring relevant guidance and updates during Cyber Month.    Other things to look out for include the launch of Respond and Recover, a collection of resources on our website for individuals and organisations in the UK which have experienced an online scam or cyber attack.   We’ll be partnering with trade associations to promote a couple of brilliant tools the NCSC offers small businesses – Check Your Cyber Security and the Cyber Action Plan. We’re delighted to have the support of trade associations in helping us reach their small business members, and to highlight of the importance of cyber security – no matter your business size.   These are just some of the things you’ll be seeing from us this October – there will be plenty more via the NCSC’s website, LinkedIn and X channels during #CyberMonth2024.    The NCSC is working hard in collaboration with our partners to strengthen the UK’s cyber security resilience, and just a few weeks ago we saw a watershed moment for this country with the introduction of the Government’s Cyber Security and Resilience Bill (for more on that, see my blog post - https://lnkd.in/eHPxuRh4).   But as we navigate an ever-evolving threat landscape there is of course more to do, and UK organisations have a huge part to play in this by strengthening their own resilience.   In that spirit, I encourage organisations to look out for #CyberMonth2024 on our channels. By signing up to at least one online tool or following just one piece of advice, you’ll have made an important step towards building your own and the UK’s collective resilience. #CyberMonth2024
