In a new report the National Preparedness Commission, an independent group of experts in national crises planning, has issued a stark warning that the UK’s food security is in a precarious state. If the government means what it repeatedly says – that food security is critical to national security – then it will take these warnings extremely seriously and follow the expert advice. A multi-generational farming family will hand over pre-loved farming toys to the Treasury with a message to Chancellor Rachel Reeves—a symbolic gesture from the children of Britain’s farming families who are being denied a future in the industry. In a letter led by the NFU, the food supply chain, including all major supermarket retailers, has voiced concerns about the government’s plan to scrap Agricultural Property Relief (APR) and Business Property Relief (BPR). The coalition warns that removing these reliefs threatens the long-term stability of the nation's food resilience, at a time when the government has stated that 'food security is national security.'
