Our Measurement for Quantum (M4Q) programme has propelled 50 UK-based quantum technology companies toward market readiness by addressing their specific and most pressing technological and business challenges.    Programme users have reported improved product performance through data insights, others have used the M4Q research to optimise their manufacturing processes. Last week, we had a wonderful time hosting CERN, celebrating 70 years of a strategic relationship between our organisations.   We were also delighted to welcome the Government Chief Scientific Adviser Dame Angela Mclean to meet with our scientists and discuss the impact our science delivers for the UK.   We look forward to continuing our collaborations with CERN and celebrating our partnership again in the future.

This week we are in Hamburg for the International Measurement Confederation’s (IMEKOs) 24th world congress. We will be convening with world leading metrologists to give insight into diverse and innovative fields of metrology. On Tuesday 27 August, we will be hosting the TC25 Quantum Technology workshop with local hub, Hamburg Quantum Innovation Capital, and some of their industrial and research partners. The workshop will see pitches, presentations, and an exhibition to highlight the various activities of National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) in the field of quantum technologies. Two National Physical Laboratory Principal Scientists will be delivering talks throughout the week. Ivan Rungger will be presenting on standardised metrics and benchmarks for quantum computers, Tuesday 27 at 16:05 (CEST) in Hall 4, and John Devaney on the establishment of ISO/IEC/JTC 3 quantum technologies, Wednesday 28 at 11:15 (CEST) in the Freiburg Hall. We have recently commissioned several new measurement systems to better understand the high voltage performance of multilayer printed circuit boards. Our final presentation comes from CERN’s Head of the Geodetic Metrology Group - Helene Mainaud Durand. She'll be discussing the challenges of geodetic measurement and alignment at CERN.
