  • This fortnight focus is dedicated to our friends at the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust. They have generously funded a three-year project with the SCiP Alliance to develop their Thriving Lives Toolkit for Early Years and Higher Education. This is incredibly important work, supporting the understanding of the challenges for Military children and young people throughout their education. The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, we thank you for your continued support and services to military children.

  • We’re proud to join the #WinterWarmthNetwork, a campaign dedicated to improving access to the huge range of financial support schemes available to help individuals through the cold months. With 6 million households facing fuel poverty, together, we will raise awareness of the schemes available (including schemes from local councils, energy companies, charities and many more) to ensure that no one is left in the cold this winter.

Last week, we got to join young people from naval family backgrounds meeting to celebrate their participation in the exciting Leaders Unlocked project, an innovative strand in the Naval Children's Charity Life Chances Programme funded by Greenwich Hospital.    Meeting at the historic Old Royal Naval College, participants – who had only met online previously - spent the day bonding over their shared backgrounds and discussing what they wanted to see the Life Changes Programme deliver, while also touring the magnificent ORNC site, including the famous Painted Hall.    Throughout Leaders Unlocked, there have been opportunities to focus on cultural, adventure, education and employment activities strands to enrich and impact the Life Chances Programme for young people. Their voices and influence over the challenges they face as the children of former and serving naval families are shaping the programme, ensuring it reflects their needs and aspirations. They have also committed to forming a new NCC Youth Council, so will have ongoing input.   Greenwich Hospital, in partnership with the NCC, is dedicated to improving the life chances of children from Royal Navy backgrounds by developing a programme to enhance mental health, improve wellbeing and support successful education and employment outcomes.     Thank you to all those who participated and to the continued work of the team supporting the delivery of the Life Chances programme at NCC. • Naval Children’s Charity – seeking Trustees The Naval Children's Charity supports the wellbeing and development of children and young people from Royal Navy and Royal Marine families (including the Reserves and Royal Fleet Auxiliary), serving and veteran, in recognition of the unique situations they and their families face. The only one of our Armed Forces to have a dedicated Children’s Charity, our vision is that every RN and RM child and young person has their spirit and talent unlocked, giving them a brighter future and helping them to realise their full potential. For those in crisis we provide financial grants in support, mental health and wellbeing support and signposting and partnerships to improve the quality of life and address the range of needs our children experience. In 2023/24 we spent £2.5m on delivering our welfare services, helping over 2,200 children and young people. Could you help us to continue to change the lives of our children now and in the future by becoming a trustee? We are seeking two trustees to join us in Autumn 2024 for an initial term of three years: one trustee with experience of Digital/IT and one to support Finance/Funding to support our growing programmes by helping the Charity in developing new income streams. Experience of RN service is an advantage. Both roles are voluntary, however reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be paid. For more information about the role please see the information pack on our website or contact Jo McEvoy, Head of Finance on jo.mcevoy@navalchildrenscharity.org.uk The closing date for applications is 4th October 2024. Interviews will be held Oct 24 (TBA) For all the details, head here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eSp4nvJy
