About us
We are the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM), an organisation funded by the Department for Education (DfE) that aims to improve maths teaching in state schools across England. We want pupils of all ages to really understand maths and all its interconnections. And retain that understanding, not just so they pass tests and exams, but because that will benefit them in life—for ever. We do this by supporting the ongoing professional development of teachers—primary and secondary. The NCETM coordinates all the CPD activities run by the network of 40 Maths Hubs in England and produces high quality resources to complement the work. We’re not a big organisation: around 40 people, mostly former teachers, spread all over England, united in #ThePowerOfMaths.

NCETM's Director for Primary, debbie morgan, was pleased to accept an invitation from the Education Policy Institute and Oxford University Press to take part in an insightful Round Table discussion on Early Maths at the Labour Party Conference with other sector specialists. A rich discussion was enjoyed by all, and Debbie was pleased to discuss the impact of Mastering Number, now running across almost 8,000 primary schools, as well as the need for a reduction in curriculum content at primary to facilitate deeper and more secure learning. We're excited that the NCETM and Maths Hubs Programme, now in its tenth year, are taking part in these important conversations on the future of maths education 🤩 #TeachingForMastery #MathsHubs10Years #PrimaryMathsCurriculum #MasteringNumber #ThePowerOfMaths #LabourPartyConference2024
