📣 Call for Proposals - A new window on the Universe 📣 Curved spacetime, black holes, and the evolutionary history of the Universe speak immensely to the imagination of the general public as well as science enthusiasts, and yet physics is still perceived as a discipline only accessible for the intellectual elite. Physicist and gravitational wave expert Gideon Koekoek (Maastricht University) is on a mission to demystify the complexities of physics. In a wonderful lecture he held at The Royal Institution, Gideon let us in on the secret that nature repeats the same rules over and over again, so that once we understand one case, we can understand more abstract areas too. In this lecture (see below) he prepares the viewer to appreciate, and understand, the exciting discoveries that are coming our way in the next few years, thanks to the plans to build the Einstein Telescope (see more information below). The UK is an important partner to make this possible. To that end, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the United Kingdom is inviting both Dutch and British companies, research institutes and professional associations to submit joint NL-UK proposals for writing a white paper on gravitational waves, and other key enabling technologies that will contribute to the building and development of the Einstein Telescope. For example, proposals on topics such as vibration-free cooling, better sensors, new algorithms to isolate gravitational wave signals from noise and ultra-high vacuum system are also of interest. Per white paper €5,000 is available in funding. This funding can be used to explore a potential partnership between British and Dutch organisations, or to expand on a topic both parties are already working on. We encourage applicants to use this opportunity to highlight interesting bilateral innovations and R&D initiatives. For more information, the eligibility criteria and the required proposal submission template contact the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the United Kingdom: Marjolein Bouwers or Laura van Voorst Vader ❗ The deadline for submitting proposals is Friday 22 November 2024 ❗ The underground Einstein Telescope will be Europe's most advanced observatory for gravitational waves. It will allow researchers to hear black holes collide and learn about the early universe. The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany are jointly studying whether to host this world-class observatory. #gravitationalwaves Juri Roerink Innovatie Attaché Netwerk / IA (Netherlands Innovation Network) Iris Leussink Pier de Vries Lodewijk Smoor Hanno Wurzner https://lnkd.in/gHGb9KQe

🚀 Revolutionising Communications with Generative AI We're happy to announce the publication of "From the Ground Up! How Generative AI is Revolutionising the Communications Industry", resulting from our second call for proposals. Produced in collaboration between ainigma and Grayling, this paper explores how AI is transforming creativity and productivity across communications, and how organisations can navigate this seismic shift. Key insights include: 🎨 AI for Creativity: AI isn’t just about automation; it’s about augmenting and boosting human creativity. 🌱 The Role of Leadership: A successful AI strategy demands top-down empowerment and bottom-up innovation. Leadership must set clear ambitions, legitimise AI use, and create the space for employees to experiment. 🛠️ Overcoming Adoption Challenges: It’s not enough to simply roll out AI tools—organisations need comprehensive change management, training, and upskilling to ensure AI reaches its full potential. 💪 Empowering Everyone: AI isn’t just for tech experts. All employees can engage with AI to drive innovation and unlock new opportunities. Curious about how AI can reshape the communications industry? Please find the white paper attached. Over the past two days, we got to show our colleagues from different departments in the Hague what it is that we do at the Netherlands Innovation Network UK, and why working together on innovation and key enabling technologies is so important. We brought the delegation to the Digital Catapult for a work visit, to give our colleagues an insight into the wide spectrum of interesting work that they do in relation to quantum, photonics, future networks, and immersive technologies. It was great to see the extensive work they do on creating an effective digital innovation ecosystem. It is bound to have been inspiring to all visiting. Many thanks for hosting us!
