Taking a little coffee break? Why not peruse our feature piece exploring how #Disability is researched. Including beautiful artwork by the extraordinary Shahina Jaffer, it shares: 1️⃣ Different definitions of disability and how these may impact research. Know about the social, medical, and biopsychosocial models of disability? No? Dive in 2️⃣ Reflections from one of our public contributors, Karl. "Projects like this – and all the other things that I have channelled myself into – serve as a purpose for the second life that I have today." 3️⃣ Summaries from the programme leads Eirini-Christina Saloniki and William L.. "There is a strong disconnect between theories about disability and the data about disability, and how the two relate. This is what fuelled my exploration through this work." 4️⃣ A look at what the other public contributors thought. 5️⃣ Our recommendations for future action on the topic. Intrigued? Researching people’s experiences of disability is important ✍ It can help public bodies, like the NHS, better understand the needs of people living with disabilities and help them shape services accordingly. Yet research survey questions are often informed by pre-existing perspectives on disability. It is not always clear what assumptions underpin the questions, nor if this impacts the answers people give. We have been exploring this topic with people living with disability through our Understanding Disability Research project 👉 https://lnkd.in/edc-e6Ks And today, this work is receiving a UCL Office for Open Science and Scholarship award 🎉! Congratulations to the team Eirini-Christina Saloniki, William L., and all of the public contributors.
