Delivering What Matters
About us
Northern Ireland Water is a Government Owned Company (GoCo), set up in April 2007 to provide the water and sewerage services in Northern Ireland. That means we supply 560 million litres of clean water a day for almost 1.8 million people as well as treating 320 million litres of wastewater a day. That’s a lot of water! In order to deliver this service we require a huge system of pipes, pumping stations, water and wastewater treatment works and reservoirs. There are 26,700 kilometres of watermains and 15,200 kilometres of sewers in Northern Ireland. Though most of the time this system works well, we are planning a lot of investment over the next few years to ensure that we protect public health and the environment for generations to come. NI Water is delighted to have reached this major milestone on the Caugh Hill to Strabane Trunkmain, which will help improve the security of the water supply in the area. Well done to the team for their hard work in challenging conditions, working in an environmentally sensitive area.
DAWSON WAM have recently completed the installation of a 500mm diameter, 20m long, pipe bridge over the River Burngibbagh on the Caugh Hill to Strabane Trunkmain for Northern Ireland Water. 🌊 The pipe bridge was specially manufactured in one piece and transported from England to span the River, which is a protected fish breeding ground of special scientific interest on the greater River Faughan system. 🐟 One of our civils squads completed the installation on a rather snowy and cold day in January with the assistance of a 120tonne mobile crane supported using our in-house fabricated steel mats. ❄️ This was a challenging lift in an environmentally sensitive area with poor ground conditions. The crane platform design was tailored to minimise disturbance to the ground and the mats were utilised to reduce the quantities of hardfill required to be hauled to site, helping us meet our environmental targets to reduce carbon and waste. ✅ This installation was an important milestone on our overall scheme - a 9.6km 500mm diameter trunkmain which is now nearing completion for Northern Ireland Water.

#StormÉowyn has caused significant tree damage at many of our Reservoirs and Recreation sites across NI with fallen trees blocking many walkways and paths. Our priority since Friday has been the restoration of water supplies to all customers. Over the coming days, we will continue to assess our sites and we’re asking the public to stay away from these sites for now until full assessments are undertaken. Thankyou
