🤝 There's nothing like coming together as a team! As part of our all-colleague day yesterday, we spread out across three venues; Head Office in Nottingham, our Arnold branch, and our Uttoxeter branch, bringing all of our valued team together to discuss how we can all deliver together brilliantly this year. The insights, ideas and suggestions gathered when everyone is given the opportunity to meet and collaborate is invaluable, and a great way to continue momentum as we move further in to 2025. Thank you to all of the wonderful team for making the day so special.

🚀 There is healthy optimism amongst brokers about the future of the UK mortgage sector, despite a challenging economic backdrop. Our new research, which gathered the opinions of 500 mortgage brokers across the UK, found that an overwhelming majority (82%) feel more positive about the sector’s prospects now compared to the start of 2024. Despite overall optimism, brokers still see cause for concern. Top reasons include: uncertainty over the wider economy (35%), continued high interest rates (27%) and the ongoing cost of living crisis (24%). Praven Subbramoney, Chief Lending Officer at Nottingham Building Society said: “It is promising to see brokers’ optimism and feeling of resilience within the sector compared to a year ago, especially within the context of ongoing economic challenges and the pace of change across the sector. We are committed to maintaining this ongoing dialogue with brokers to understand their concerns and pressures, so that we can evolve our products and services to serve them and their clients" 🤝🏡 Read more on Mortgage Solutions here: https://lnkd.in/e4wY4BtH

When it comes to getting your organisation's message across, there's more than meets the eye. This was the theme explored by our CMO Holly Marshall at the Visual Branding Masterclass from The Financial Services Forum this week. Together with industry peers, Holly discussed the journey of rebranding a 175-year organisation and how we took our colleagues and customers on the journey with us. It's always positive for our industry to come together and share ideas, and we're looking forward to more collaboration in 2025.

We loved this Friday Fun Fact from the Building Societies Association, especially the mention of our founder, Samuel Fox. In 1849, Samuel’s vision of helping people own their own homes and offering a secure place to save became the foundation of Nottingham Building Society. His values continue to inspire us today as we strive to make homeownership accessible to all.
Friday fact: Did you know that the Scottish Building Society is the oldest existing Building Society in the UK? Founded in Edinburgh in 1848, not long after the establishment of the first known permanent society (who remembers the date of that from last week?). With its Victorian beginnings, the Society was set up as the Edinburgh Friendly Property Investment Company, and its aim was to lend to ‘respectable merchants and master tradesmen’. 1848 was also the year that the Caledonian Railway provided the first though service from Scotland and England (a railway theme is starting to appear!). The Society recently created this brilliant video to explain their history and demonstrate how their purpose has remained true for over 175 years. One year on, 1849 saw the founding of the Nottingham Building Society by Samuel Fox, a man with a vision to help people own their own home and offer them a safe and secure place for their savings. Samuel Fox was a fascinating man, before setting up the Society he had done a huge amount in Nottingham to promote adult education, public health and the abolition of slavery. You can find out more about him here - https://lnkd.in/ej36DX_j Remembering the history of the building society sector and what has shaped it throughout the years is important as we look to the future. The original purpose of building societies – supporting people into homeownership and helping them to save to achieve this – has remained true for over two centuries, despite monumental societal and economic change. So as we look to the future, and the growth of the mutual sector more widely, we draw and build on this history of creating communities, supporting members and resilience. #BuildingSocietySince1775 #MutualsinAction Thanks to Suzanne Williamson and Tom Bestwick for this one!
