Last week, colleagues showed their support for Black Country Women's Aid for #InternationalWomensDay. It was great to hear about their pledge to continue to support survivors of abuse and violence across the Black Country. Colleagues also attended their training session on domestic abuse and had the opportunity to network with other local businesses supporting this fantastic cause.

Yesterday, we launched our Women's Inclusive Network, known as WIN. WIN will be part of our Connect group which focuses on Equity, Inclusion and Diversity across the whole of West Brom Building Society. WIN's co- chairs Gurvinder Glenholme ACMA EMBA and Georgia d'Esterre hosted the event and were joined by the network's sponsors Sophie Pazzaglia FCCA ACG and Francesca Shaw. It was great to hear all their personal stories on why this network is important to them, and their shared vision on how WIN will create a safe space for women, and friends of the network, to connect, share experiences, support each others wellbeing and foster allyship.

Cash ISAs are a vitally important savings method for so many people in the UK. They help our savers to build solid futures, whether it’s saving for their first home, emergency funds or retirement, without the risks associated with other types of investing. There’s been some recent media coverage saying the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, may be looking to scrap or reduce the tax-free Cash ISA allowance to encourage investment in stocks and shares. But it’s important to recognise that many of our customers may not have enough savings or want to put their money at risk. If people don’t want to invest their money in this way they shouldn’t be penalised. People should be able to save in a way that lets them use their savings when they need to, without worrying that it might be a time when the stocks and shares markets have dipped, and their savings have lost some value. The Building Societies Association (BSA) recently shared some eye-opening research: - A whopping 73% of UK adults with Cash ISAs are against the idea of the Government scrapping or reducing them. - 90% of Cash ISA savers feel it’s important to get back at least what they’ve saved or invested, which only cash savings can guarantee. - Almost all (90%) are aware that if prices rise faster than their savings grow, their money won’t go as far. That’s why we’ve written to Sarah Coombes, MP for West Bromwich and asked her to support Cash ISAs and the positive role they play in building a secure future for our customers. We recently donated to Redditch Community Shed after running a fantastic branch raffle. The shed aims to combat isolation and loneliness by hosting a range of activities such as woodworking and crafting, which are enjoyed by local people. 🛠️ Thank you to all Redditch branch colleagues and customers for your kind donations which will be put towards new materials for a range of exciting projects!
