Our team have just done something incredible: we have performed a cross-concept design and costing study for 3 separate MFE concepts in under 1 week, reducing the design time from years to a few days... this is the power of automated design and simulation workflows (at the pre-conceptual design level). Next we'll be performing a design optimization using multi-objective optimizations to understand the impact on cost of design choices. Thank you to the The University of Manchester for supporting our development effort and giving an outstanding team the opportunity to show some real prowess. Where is all of this going? We are improving the fidelity of the analysis each week in interactions with customers, who are telling us what they care most about in the parametric CAD model, which simulation tools they want to see in automated workflows, and which pain point they are dealing with as an optimization problem. We work in cycles with each team to produce a fully automated simulation workflow that is embedded in the ARPA-E fusion costing framework (in fact we launch the simulations from this framework). We are adding more functionality each week and can now design all MFE and IFE concepts (at the CD level), and can either hand the capability to the teams or continue working with them on difficult topics (mostly physics right now, but some engineering ones too).

Tomorrow we show off our digital design capabilities at the Harwell Innovation Center, we have multi objective optimization working for all MFE fusion power cores and will demonstrate in 2D and in 3D in VR. On our nTtau Digital Friday collaboration call with Professor Lee Margetts and Oliver Woolland at the The University of Manchester. We are making progress - we are starting week 6 of 12 weeks of conceptual design for magnetic fusion energy. We will be releasing capabilities openly at a Clean Air Task Force meeting in July.

Very happy that nTtau Digital LTD can play a role in this development under Manchester for the design and costing of fusion power plants. We are contributing the costing piece for three cases that will be open - one for MFE (a tokamak), one for IFE (a direct drive concept) and one for MIF (a concept we invented!), as well as the geometry, meshing and automated simulation workflows... and AI surrogates and optimization (in concert with efforts at Manchester). Our work is augmented also by a contract from the Clean Air Task Force (CATF) to develop additional costing capabilities for the ARPA-E costing code (that has been released as open source), developed under Woodruff Scientific LTD. nTtau Digital LTD is customer-facing - if you are in MFE, you will likely have heard from me already, if I have missed you, please reach out, we want to stand up capabilities for you, delivering the open MFE set in July at a meeting of the International Working Group for Fusion Costing Analysis of the CATF in Boston, and proprietary development under NDA for your preferred embodiment. We'll be starting in on IFE in July to release in October, and MIF in October to release in January.
