Young people leaving the care system are nine times more likely to become homeless than their peers, shocking news reveals today. We know from working with young people in our homelessness projects that they face challenges many of us can not even imagine. People like Amanda who went into care aged 18 months and went on to have 15+ foster placements before finding our Naomi project, which supports young women. You can watch Amanda’s story here, in her own words: https://lnkd.in/e9jqNFgP Amanda came to the Houses of Parliament with us two years ago and helped launch our Tackling Trauma, Ending Homelessness campaign. Sign our petition, calling on Government to ensure care leavers – and everyone facing homelessness – has the chance for a fresh start, like Amanda https://lnkd.in/e_uzZ3V7 #TraumaHomelessness #HopeNotHomelessness

We’re so grateful to our supporters, individuals and businesses like Kier Group, who enable us to give a listening ear, vital support, and the warmth of fresh clothes, a shower and hot food and drink to people experiencing homelessness – especially at this time of the year. Special thank you to Lisa Hornby and Terry Hanlon who earlier this year took on the 17 mile hike from Seaham to Hartlepool and raised over an incredible £1,900 to support our work in bringing hope to people facing homelessness. We simply couldn't do the work we do without our amazing community of supporters.💛🖤 #HopeNotHomelessness

Latest figures reveal almost 1,500 people experiencing homelessness died last year, an increase of 42% on the previous year Museum of Homelessness. While these stats are important and show the grim reality, behind them are people. People with hopes, dreams, stories. Every day we strive to prevent homelessness in the first instance, and support people in housing crisis. It’s important that we create space to reflect and remember those we have lost as well. That's why each year our staff come together for a memorial service to remember everyone who has passed away. 💛 #HopeNotHomelessness

94% of people facing homelessness have experienced trauma. Our research with Northumbria University suggests that trauma is inherently linked to homelessness, and that without properly tackling trauma, we cannot hope to end homelessness. That's why we're calling on the government to do more to tackle trauma. Can you help? Write to your local MP using our handy guide to make sure trauma is on the agenda for plans to tackle homelessness: https://lnkd.in/e_uzZ3V7 #TraumaHomelessness #HopeNotHomelessness

👩🍼A story of Hope on World Homeless Day. After three months of living in one of our supported accommodation flats for mothers and babies, Sarah gave birth to her daughter. However, concerns grew for Sarah and her capacity to look after her child while she struggled to deal with the trauma of a coercive and abusive relationship. Thanks to your support we worked closely with Sarah to help her access mental health support. Your generosity meant the support didn’t stop there … Sarah received wraparound support from our services as she moved into her own private tenancy. A home of her own. Like everyone we work with, Sarah is a part of our extended Oasis Community Housing family and knows we will always be there if she needs us. 💛 Read Sarah's full story here: https://lnkd.in/eG8hmxFH #HopeNotHomelessness #WorldHomelessDay
