Following a recent article in Euronews 📰 , it is evident that despite renewed policy interest and ambitious future targets, current limits on CO2 fluids are overly stringent, leading to excessive cost to purify and transport CO2. This is disrupting the adoption of CCUS, hindering progress to UK and EU climate targets. Clearer and more achievable purity standards are essential to make CCUS economically viable for industry. 🔍 OGC Energy recognised this issue two years ago and initiated a new project called DECIDE (DEfine CO₂ Impurities: Decrease Emissions). This experimental lab-based project aims to address the challenges related to CO2 impurities.
