We are Seriously Social About Employment and Skills. Did you know that In 2023, Oldham Active's initiatives had a significant impact on the community. We participated in career events at several local schools, reaching over 2000 students and showcasing various career pathways. Our provision of First Aid training and practical support for job applications and apprenticeships directly benefited these students. Additionally, our involvement in the Oldham Youth Hub collaboration, where we shared information with other professionals supporting the town's young people, further strengthened our ties with the community. Oldham Active stands out with its unique approach and unwavering commitment to nurturing young talent. With 47% of our workforce being under 30, we are not just dedicated but also innovative in providing support, training, upskilling, and diverse opportunities for those at the beginning of their careers. Our goal is to inspire them to reach their full potential, setting us apart in our dedication to the youth. Our extensive training courses cater to young people seeking career progression and individuals in the Oldham community interested in personal and skill development. Providing a first-class training environment for our junior employees, ensuring they have the best resources to gain their qualifications. The resulting qualifications are recognised and set the professional standard nationally and internationally, giving our employees a competitive edge. Oldham Active is committed to changing the youth development situation in the borough. Despite it being well below the national average for opportunities and personal growth, we are dedicated to making a difference. In 2023, we put 13 individuals through Level 2 and Level 3 workplace apprenticeships, providing invaluable training and hands-on experience. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to nurturing the potential of Oldham's young people and gives us hope for a brighter future. We also provide essential life skills, such as swimming, to children and adults within our community, delivering our children's swimming lesson programme to 9.5% of the 0-15-year-olds in the Oldham Borough this year alone. That's over 5000 children! #SeriouslySocial #Skills #OldhamActive #YouthDevelopment #CareerPathways #Apprenticeships #YouthEmpowerment

We are Seriously Social About Employment and Skills and would like to shine a big spotlight on our outstanding Volunteer, Phil Kelly. Phil has been a cornerstone of the Chadderton Health and Wellbeing Centre in Oldham for over 25 years. His commitment to volunteering and exceptional contributions have left a memorable mark on the Centre's community. Full-time employment does not suit him, but the flexibility of volunteering allows him to contribute meaningfully while accommodating his needs as a disabled person. Phil's positive attitude and willingness to go above and beyond in his voluntary role as a leisure attendant have never gone unnoticed. He consistently provides excellent customer service, carries out various tasks with diligence, and has shown remarkable support for lifeguard training, showcasing his eagerness to contribute in every way possible. Furthermore, Phil's passion for football, particularly his unwavering support for Manchester City, reflects his vibrant and engaging personality, making him an integral part of the Oldham Active community. Over the years, he has undergone significant development, and his outstanding work has been recognised with numerous awards, including Oldham Active's Volunteer of the Year and Oldham Borough's Top Volunteer Awards. His impact extends far beyond the Centre, positively influencing the lives of those around him. Phil's customer-facing voluntary role has also been instrumental in raising awareness in the community about the challenges faced by people with autism in the workplace, highlighting the lack of understanding and stereotypes around autism while showcasing the significant value they can offer to the workplace environment. Oldham Active is a community where everyone is recognised for their differences, and everyone is recognised as belonging, ensuring that his volunteering role provides him with a sense of purpose and enjoyment each day in a place where he feels comfortable and belongs. Phil's dedication, hard work, and positive spirit make him an inspiration to us all. And that is why we are proud to put him forward for the Seriously Social Outstanding Volunteer Award. #SeriouslySocial #Skills #Volunteering #OldhamCommunity #OutstandingVolunteer
