As a result of underlying neurobiological differences in the brain, people with ADHD can often experience persistent and disruptive intrusive thoughts. This can make it difficult for individuals to regulate their attention, leading to a constant stream of thoughts that are difficult to control. Examples of intrusive thoughts related to ADHD include: ▶ Racing Thoughts: a constant flow of thoughts which are difficult to control making it difficult to focus on any one thing. ▶ Obsessive Worrying: a fixation on specific worries which can make it difficult to complete tasks and make decisions. ▶ Negative Self-talk: a repetition of individuals being overly self-critical causing them to avoid new challenges and opportunities. An ADHD assessment is the essential first step in unravelling negative thinking patterns, enabling individuals to start dealing with their complex emotions.
