Happy International Women's Day 2025 from OQC 🫶 With so many phenomenal women working across OQC and the world, we are delighted to celebrate them this #IWD2025. Our Developer Advocate Maria Violaris, DPhil asked our female colleagues to bring in an object with a connection to their role. From quantum engineers to finance managers, office assistants to nanofabrication technicians - can you guess who does what at OQC? With this year’s theme of accelerating action, we also want to give a shoutout to some of the wonderful organisations supporting women specifically in quantum including: Quantum Women and WOMANIUM, who we were delighted to host sessions with last year! Watch our #IWD25 celebration video below 👇 #AccelerateAction #WomenInSTEM #WomenInTech #WomenInQuantum #QuantumComputing

New preprint released on arXiv 💥 In our latest research, OQC’s Materials Science & Device Engineering team have explored ways to model post-manufacture tuning of Josephson junction parameters. In this work, they explore how junction properties change during these tuning processes. The work is crucial in facilitating the creation of higher fidelity quantum computers, as understanding the techniques used to fine tune quantum processors will allow them to be further optimised. Key highlights from this research include: - We develop a model for junction tuning based on depinning theory which gives some insight into how the junction may be modified in this process. - Junctions are interrogated before and after tuning, an increase in breakdown voltage after tuning suggests that the weakest points in the barrier have been modified in this process. - Cryogenic measurements of higher excited states in qubits, which have previously been linked to the nano-scale structure in barriers, show no difference between tuned and untuned junctions. 🔗 Access the full preprint on arXiv: https://lnkd.in/eassUiMe 🔗Access our TL:DR blog: https://lnkd.in/eHw3Bqc5 Congratulations to Oscar Kennedy, Jared Cole and Connor Shelly, the authors of this research, and to the entire OQC team without whom this wouldn’t have been possible. #Quantum #JosephsonJunctions #QuantumFuture #IYQ2025

Quantum computing is set to bring major productivity benefits to end users over the next 30 years. But who is ready today to take the quantum leap? While quantum computers are not intended to replace conventional systems, companies relying on high-performance computers today should be engaging with quantum computing now to ensure they remain competitive in an ever evolving technological landscape. At OQC, we are HPC agnostic and have integrated our quantum solutions directly into end-users' existing digital infrastructure through deploying our devices in colocation data centres: allowing companies to develop and test quantum applications to ensure they are prepared to reap the benefits once the technology matures. This approach means we have been able to combine high-performance computing (HPC) and quantum computing all under one roof, allowing classical and quantum compute to work seamlessly together. In October 2023, in partnership with Fujitsu, we deployed one of the first quantum computers in the world into a High Performance Computing centre - CESGA. 🌍 As part of our ongoing commitment to CESGA, we headed out to Santiago de Compostela to spend time with the fantastic team that works on QMIO. It was a thought-provoking trip exploring what industry leading research is being conducted, what future projects we can launch together, and the impact our next round of features will bring. 💭 Our collaboration with CESGA underpins how quantum integration into HPC environments represents a natural evolution of high performance computing centres. This hybrid approach enables quantum to make an impact during the NISQ-era today. CESGA is leading the way in quantum research, and OQC is proud to be powering this innovation. 🚀
