Empower survivors of sexual violence: support Outcry Witness today Survivors of sexual assault face countless challenges, and the decision to report the crime is deeply personal and always difficult. Outcry Witness is an online platform dedicated to giving survivors the power and control they need. We provide a safe and anonymous space for survivors to create a detailed record of the crime at their own pace, ensuring they have the option to report to the police when they are ready. At Outcry Witness, we believe in empowering survivors through choice and control. Our platform allows survivors to document their experiences fully and anonymously, without the immediate pressure to report. This crucial step helps survivors regain a sense of power over their narrative and their path forward. We have been operating in Beta mode since our launch in April last year, with survivors around the UK using our platform to store records of their experiences. We are now raising £10,000 to roll the platform out widely to offer our service to everyone who needs us. Join us in supporting survivors by donating to Outcry Witness. Your contribution can make a real difference and will help maintain this vital platform and expand its reach, providing more survivors with the resources and choices they need to reclaim their power and control. In the realm of sexual assault, stealthing stands as a deeply troubling violation, often cloaked in silence and misunderstanding. Stealthing, the act of non-consensually removing a condom during sex, strips individuals of their autonomy and exposes them to physical and emotional risks. Survivors of stealthing often grapple with a whirlwind of emotions, from confusion and anger to guilt and fear. The violation can leave them feeling powerless, their trust shattered. The psychological toll is immense, as survivors may struggle with anxiety, depression, and a diminished sense of self-worth. The physical risks, including potential exposure to STIs and the possibility of unintended pregnancy, further compound the trauma. "Almost nine in 10 young adults in the UK believe that removing a condom during sex without the other person’s permission is sexual assault, and around half support prison time as a penalty, finds a new study by UCL researchers. This is the first UK study to cover views on non-consensual condom removal. It is published in PLOS ONE and surveyed 1,729 people between the ages of 18 and 25, living in the UK." "The chronically underfunded Crown Prosecution Service and a crumbling court system are huge challenges. According to the Criminal Bar Association, there is a “critical” shortage of specialist barristers to prosecute and defend in rape cases. As of March, the number of sexual offence cases waiting to go to trial was at a record high. The government has promised to establish 80 new rape courts across England and Wales to fast-track cases." “The criminal justice system must treat survivors with compassion, dignity and respect. That’s not possible when they are left in the dark, waiting for court dates that never come or are rearranged at the last minute.” Ciara Bergman, the CEO of Rape Crisis England & Wales. Sexual assault is an umbrella term for sexual contact or behaviour that occurs without a person’s explicit consent. It is a crime! It comes in many different forms, from the most blatant to the more subtle. Society can sometimes dismiss some experiences of sexual violence as ‘nothing,’ which could lead the victim to doubt what has happened to them. It’s crucial to recognise the signs of each type of sexual violence and what help is available if any of these have happened to you or someone you know.
