PIF guidance is to aim for a reading age of 9-11 when creating health information. We have published a new position statement to explain why we make this recommendation. The short statement includes: - An outline of skill levels and the health literacy challenge. - Results from our survey of PIF members. - Information on readability tools. - Our position. - Links to further PIF resources. PIF advocates for the principle of universal precaution to ensure access to appropriate health information for all. A reading age of 9-11 supports this goal. PIF partner the Professional Record Standards Body (PRSB) has launched a campaign to raise awareness of the importance of sharing high-quality, standardised data for better outcomes for people. PRSB’s health and care record standards help ensure the right data is shared with the right clinician at the right time. This enhances safety, empowers individuals in their care and improves integration between health and social care. Starting with standards is not just one piece of the transformation puzzle. It’s the first and most essential step toward building a health and care system that is fit for the future.
