Forestry England is investing £14.5 million in a new seed extractory at Delamere Forest – and it’s being built with PEFC-certified mass timber. This state-of-the-art facility will test and store up to four tonnes of tree seeds annually, helping to grow resilient UK forests for the future. With 600m³ of PEFC-certified CLT and glulam, the structure prioritises sustainability while cutting carbon. Willmott Dixon and Buckland Timber have designed it for both environmental performance and aesthetics. PEFC UK’s John Kirkby highlights its impact: "This project will strengthen the UK’s forestry resilience while showcasing the carbon-storing, sustainability benefits of PEFC-certified timber." Opening in spring 2025, this facility is a major step towards a greener future. PEFC RED II certification recognised by the European Commission 🌍👉 https://lnkd.in/eNwsTUvQ We are pleased to announce that PEFC #RED II certification is officially recognised by the European Commission to demonstrate compliance with sustainability criteria under Article 29(6) and (7) of RED II. 📅 The decision was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 20 December 2024. Companies in the forest biomass supply chain and energy producers from forest biomass fuels will be able to use PEFC RED II certification to comply with RED II obligations.
