Pembroke College, University of Oxford - a dynamic and ambitious academic community founded in 1624.

About us

Pembroke is a lively and vibrant academic community situated in the heart of Oxford. Today, the student body comprises 365 undergraduates, 27 visiting students on their Junior Year Abroad from US universities, and 255 post-graduate students. Pembroke Fellows are supported in their teaching by a team of College lecturers and the College is also home to 15 Research Fellows and 11 Associates. Areas of expertise range from the use of language to the chemical biology of carbohydrates and proteins, and from the impact of civil rights movements to the psychology of colour perception. In addition to providing a space for inter-disciplinary projects to emerge and take shape, Pembroke is also home to research clusters the Oxford Changing Character of War Programme and the Oxford Martin Programme on Human Rights for Future Generations. The student body is active in College life, with wide participation in activities and events and an unusually active MCR (graduate student) community. Another special feature of Pembroke is the JCR (undergraduate) owned collection of modern British artworks, founded shortly after the Second World War and now housed in a purpose-built gallery. In line with our belief that all those with the necessary academic talent should have the opportunity to experience an Oxford education regardless of their background, the College has pioneered a new approach to access and outreach work. Academically intensive programmes are run in partnership with schools and sixth form colleges in Hackney (Pem-Brooke) and South Cheshire (Pembroke North), led by Oxford’s first full-time Access Fellow, and have been hailed as a gold standard for such initiatives by the sector’s independent regulator the Office for Fair Access. Updates from Pembroke College are available on Twitter and Instagram (@pembrokeoxford), on facebook.com/pembrokeoxford and on the College website's News & Events pages.

  • What better way to mark the end of Hilary than with Pembroke's annual musical! 🎶 The audience were all aboard in the Pichette Auditorium for this year's production of Anything Goes - three nautical-themed nights of singing, tap dancing, and sailors! ⚓ Photo credits: Freddie Houlahan

  • As part of the newest of our OxNet access programmes, Heritage-360, this year's cohort participated in a day of interdisciplinary workshops at Southmoor Academy in Sunderland to develop their study skills.📚 Professor Giles Gasper (Durham University) spoke to the students about the meaning of interdisciplinarity whilst our very own Dr Peter Claus led an interactive study skills session with them.📝 Former OxNet pupils and now undergraduates at Pembroke, Lennon, Emma, and Callum, also spoke to the Heritage-360 cohort about OxNet Access Week and student life here at Pembroke.👩🎓 Find out more at the link in the comments.

  • Happy International Women's Day! 🥳 To celebrate, we asked three women from across the Pembroke community some questions to find out more about them and their experience at Pembroke and in Oxford. 🎓 Whilst Professor Yimon Aye joined us just last term as one of our newest Fellows, Caroline Barnes has been working in Pembroke's Academic Office for 22 years and Lucy Rodgerson is now in her second year as a Law undergraduate. 📚 To find out more about them, click the link in the comments. 👇 #oxforduniversity #internationalwomensday

  • On Saturday, our W1 boat won Headship at Torpids!!! 🏆 It’s certainly not the first time PCBC have won Headship (and we’re sure it won’t be the last). 💪 The performance of our boats at Torpids last week is testament to the importance of sports at Pembroke now, and throughout its history. Whether it’s netball, football, basketball, rowing, or cricket, sports at Pembroke continue to thrive. ⚽️ That’s why, for this year’s Giving Day, one of the areas we’re fundraising for is Sports. How will you cheer us on from the stands (or from Boathouse island)? 📣 Watch the video and find out more at the link in the comments. 🔗 #oxforduni #oxforduniversity #unisports #rowing #headship

  • One of the areas we're funding for this Giving Day is Student Support and Enrichment. ✨ Hear our students talk more about their time at Pembroke so far as well as their experience with our Access and Outreach initiatives. 👂 Your support will allow future Pembroke students to receive the pastoral and welfare assistance they need to thrive here. 🎓 From hardship bursaries, to travel grants, or funding for extracurricular activities, with your help we can make sure our students have a wonderful experience at Pembroke. ☀️ Head to our Giving Day website to find out more.
