Last night we were delighted to host the 10th White Collar Crime Forum, organised by Tony Armstrong of OpenText. The event saw two expert panels discuss the topics of the incoming failure to prevent fraud offences, and the advantages and disadvantages of civil and criminal routes for seeking redress for the victims of fraud. Each panel was staffed by expert practitioners from the bar, law firms, and other professional service firms, who were able to give 360-degree views on these interesting and important subjects. Many thanks to those who spoke on the panels: Oliver Cooke, Phillip D'Costa, Martin Evans KC (33 Chancery Lane), Gavin Cunningham (Menzies), Jason Cropper (TLT), Gideon Cammerman KC (187 Chambers), Nicola Sharp (Rahman Ravelli) and Ben Ticehurst (Squire Patton Boggs). #fraud #whitecollarcrime #civilfraud

Members from our Piraeus team, partner Richard Johnson-Brown, senior associate Evelyn Komaki and associate Harry Rados were delighted to attend the Athens Tanker Conference, hosted by ASDEM Ltd, last week. During the conference, Richard delivered an insightful presentation on tlaytime, demurrage, and sanctions, drawing on an analogy to the comedy horror film 'Pride & Prejudice & Zombies'. His talk focused on the impact of sanctions on laytime and demurrage claims, and provided guidance on handling claims against sanctioned entities. #PMCshipping #ASDEM #Athens #laytime #demurrage #maritimetraining

With no automatic right to the other’s pension on separation, there is a real danger that separated cohabitees could find themselves in a retirement trap, with no access to a sufficient private pension, but too young to receive the State Pension and too old to work. As the State Pension age rises and more people turn to private pensions as a way to retire earlier, there could be serious consequences for the fastest growing family type in the UK. Senior associate Gill O'Connor in our family law team reviews the current difficulties unmarried cohabiting couples face in regards to pensions, and outlines what potential reform of the system could look like in her latest article, here: https://lnkd.in/dD6rnjxc #familylaw #separation #cohabitation
