Great work by team Heritage Potential who successfully secured the necessary permissions to rejuvenate a beautiful Grade II listed corner shop on Tavistock Street #planning #heritage
Heritage Potential secured various permissions to rejuvenate an attractive Grade II listed corner shop on Tavistock Street. The project sought to enhance a mid-19th century commercial unit at ground floor and basement to be re-occupied by a convenience store operator within Westminster’s Theatre District. The pre-application process was followed by robust submissions for Planning Permission, Listed Building and Advertisement Consent, supported by a detailed Planning, Heritage, Design and Access Statement prepared by Heritage Potential. Thorough initial research and the pre-application engagement culminated in a robust justification for the client’s requirements, which was crucial to reoccupying the unit in a timely manner. The final result will enhance the character of the street scene through historically informed and sympathetic commercial design. It will also allow this prominent corner unit to once again contribute to the vitality of the Theatre District. This was a fantastic opportunity to refine advocacy skills, explore the complexities of the appeal process, and gain valuable insights into witness examination. Well done to all involved! #MockInquiry #TownPlanning #Heritage #Planning
Planning Potential and Heritage Potential had a great evening at Landmark Chambers, participating in a mock inquiry relating to an appeal for a new retail unit following the demolition of existing buildings in Thames Ditton, Surrey. Last evening, the team had a chance to reflect on the significant efforts of their colleagues in 2023 when they took part in the real thing. This time, Samuel Deegan and Elizaveta Konstantinova stepped into the shoes of the Local Planning Authority, defending the reasons for refusal around impact on residential amenity and harm to heritage assets. Meanwhile, Ellen Yeo and Jemima Webb presented a compelling case for the appellant. The mock inquiry was an invaluable exercise, allowing both teams to delve into the complexities of the project and gain crucial insights into the witness examination process. We would like to thank Landmark Chambers for their hospitality and, specifically, Dr Ashley Bowes, Katharine Elliot and Claudia Hyde for their time, help, and guidance throughout the process. #mockinquiry #planning #heritage #appeal

We are thrilled to share that the planning teams, Heritage Potential and Communications Potential joined forces to secure Full Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent for a new Busy Bees Nurseries at the historic Hopefield Castle. Hopefield Castle, a Category B listed building in Bonnyrigg, Scotland, dates back to the late 18th century and was beautifully remodelled in the 1880s. This project has been a wonderful journey, and we are proud to contribute to the preservation and adaptive reuse of such an iconic landmark. Thrilled to share this heritage success at Grosvenor Crescent!
Heritage Potential successfully secured Full Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent for the replacement of 10 single-glazed front windows with slimline double-glazed replicas at Grade II* listed Grosvenor Crescent. 1-10 Grosvenor Crescent is a Grade II* row of terraced houses, constructed in the mid-19th century by London property developer Seth Smith. The crescent retains a uniform classical appearance with exquisite fine detailing and architectural and historic merit of more than special interest. Through detailed analysis, it was demonstrated that the existing windows were non-original copies, in poor condition, and were of no special interest. Therefore, it was argued that replacing them with more sustainable, like-for-like designs, would have a neutral impact on the significance of the listed building and the conservation area. Celebrating #HeritageTreasures Day with Our 2024 highlights!
We are joining The National Lottery Heritage Fund in celebrating #HeritageTreasures Day! We thought we could showcase a few of our 2024 projects that we immensely enjoyed working on. 🏛️Teller’s Arms, Farnham, Surrey Heritage Potential secured consents for the 1930s neo-classical Lloyd’s building, designed by Guy Dawber and Thomas Wilson. This former bank is now undergoing a superb transformation to become a beautiful Young's pub with 9 boutique rooms in the heart of Farnham. 🏛️The Royal Exchange, London The Royal Exchange has been a hub of commerce and buzz in the City of London for centuries. Planning Potential and Heritage Potential facilitated the introduction of a new restaurant and bar into this Grade I listed building. The Royal Exchange’s famous run of courtyard murals will be fully accessible for viewing, merging history with modern dining. 🏢Daily Express Building, Manchester Known for its striking Art Deco design, the Daily Express Building was completed in 1939 by the modernist engineer and architect Sir Owen Williams. Originally housing the Daily Express newspaper, it has since been repurposed for office and leisure use. We were pleased to steer through various internal alterations, to help ensure the re-occupancy of floorspace and help the building meet modern requirements. 🏰Hopefield Castle, Bonnyrigg, Scotland Hopefield Castle, a Category B listed building, likely originates to the 18th century and remodelled in the 19th century . The unique Italianate design of the building, which is uncharacteristic of the area, is of considerable interest. Heritage Potential helped secure an internal fit-out alongside external modifications to allow the building to be repurposed as a nursery. 🏛️Chestnuts House, London Borough of Waltham Forest Heritage Potential secured Planning Permission for the change of use of the Grade II* Chestnuts House from educational use to Class E, allowing for creative workspace in the original 18th-century house with a food and beverage offering within the adjacent coach house. 🏛️Grosvenor Crescent, London Grosvenor Crescent is a Grade II* listed terrace originally built after 1836 by Seth Smith. The grand terraced houses, which are central to its original planned layout, are late Georgian/Regency in style. These follow the Nash tradition of long stucco terraces, as first developed around Regent’s Park, but introduce more eclectic detail characteristic of the early Victorian period. #Heritage #ListedBuildings #Architecture #HeritageTreasuresDay #HistoricBuildings #Conservation #CulturalHeritage #AdaptiveReuse #ArchitecturalHistory #UKHeritage #BuildingPreservation #HistoricArchitecture #LandmarkRestoration #CulturalPreservation #UrbanHeritage #HistoricalLandmarks
