Last week, Kymberle Zielinski represented Plant Futures Collective, when she joined Lauren Woodley, Senior Nutrition Manager from Nomad Foods and Alex Ruani, Chief Science Educator, UCL Doctoral Researcher, on Anticipating The Trends Driving The Nutrition Sector panel at Food Matters Live in Ascot. There were so many great takeaways from the day! Plant-forward diets were front and centre, with lots of plant-based discussions bubbling to the surface throughout the event, including: ◾ The importance of eating more and more varied plants, for planet and health. Highlighting the necessity to diversify proteins. ◾ Could fibre be the new “protein”? More to come on this, watch this space! ◾ New moves in beans and mushrooms are innovative and are exciting many right now. ◾ Underlying consumer demand for plant-forward eating is sitting with open-omnivores and ready for unlocking! The challenge between striking the right balance between communicating health and taste was another important outcome from the day: ◾ Health is seen by many as an important reason for choosing a product, but ultimately taste tends to trump health as a driver of choice. ◾ Emphasising the healthiness of a product may have a negative impact when it comes to perceiving the taste of it. ◾ Positive claims have higher cut-through than “low” claims eg. “high in ___ “, is better than “lower ___” We’d love to hear your thoughts on these takeaways! #FoodMattersLive #PlantFuturesCollective

We are really excited to share this with you! An amazing and inspirational trip!
🌱 Just returned from an #inspiring trip to #Australia, where I had the opportunity to deliver a Plant Futures Collective workshop to businesses in the plant-based sector. A valuable experience discussing shared challenges, feedback on uniting behind a collective campaign like Meat Free Monday, and the exciting potential of supporting both markets further. 🎤 I was also honoured to be part of a panel at the Food Frontier #AltProteins24 in Melbourne, sharing insights on the importance of collective action and effective #marketing for the plant-based industry. Key takeaways from the workshop and conference: 1. A genuine desire to collaborate, recognising that the market is tough, but we’re stronger together. Learnings between markets bring new ideas, opportunities, and solutions. 2. The importance of marketing in consumer adoption - just like in the UK, there is no dedicated fund for this in Australia, but collective business action is stepping in. 3. The economic value of grains and pulses as export goods is a major focus in Australia - parallels with Canada's approach and Protein Industries Canada were striking. 🎯 Looking ahead, I’ll be working on more workshops, with a webinar in late October to debrief on the findings. This space is brimming with opportunity, and I can’t wait to see where we take it next! Special thanks to Thomas King for his incredible journey launching Food Frontier and team for hosting an exceptional conference; Susie O'Neill, Megan Redmond, Simon Eassom. Klara Kalocsay, Samuel Fuller, Madison Bryce, Hamish Toohey, Liz Shaw and Jennifer Thompson Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) incredible drive, Kirsten Grinter, Nathaniel Tupou for the opportunity to partner and co-creating the workshop. AND! hearing from so many fantastic speakers including Sonalie Figueiras Green Queen Media, Andy Jarvis Bezos Earth Fund, Edwin Bark Redefine Meat, David Fechner Griffith University, Simon Jackson Compass Group Australia, David Bucca Change Foods and being joined on a panel with Satya S. Tripathi Global Alliance for a Sustainable Planet, Kristi Knaack Riordan Harvest B, Shaunagh Duncan Oatly And Simon Eassom for sharing an amazing analogy that resonated deeply: like cars vs. horses, people didn't know they wanted the freedom of a car until they had it - perhaps the plant-based sector will be our future "car." 🚗🌿 Grateful to everyone for the warm welcome and for fostering a spirit of learning and collaboration. #plantbased #altprotein #collectiveaction #FoodFrontier #AltProteins24

The first veg-net event was a huge #success! 👏 We are thrilled to share our new #insights developed in partnership with Vypr and led by Kymberle Zielinski. One part of this study focused on #packaging appeal, examining what cues make some packaging more attractive to consumers than others. We compared plant-based packaging designs with equivalent animal-based products. The findings were clear: packaging cues that make #plantbased products look #familiar, #delicious, and #fresh significantly increase their #appeal. Congratulations to Mike Hill for launching the first Veg-Net event and to Ben Davies for collaborating on this insightful piece.💡 #consumerinsight #packagingdesign #newproductdevelopment #growthstrategies
