Reading this utter insult to future generations who are going to have to live with the epic consequences of our ongoing failure to decarbonise our economy and respect nature it makes me even more ashamed I once took Rupert Murdoch’s shilling. Since leaving News International, an organisation whose values I realised did not align with mine, I have spent five years endeavouring to work with purpose driven organisations (commercial and non profit) who I genuinely believe are working to improve the environment, community and the future health and prosperity of humanity. In doing so I have, along with my best friend, wife and business partner Deborah Spencer and other great people (latterly the legend Mark O. Hudson ) founded two businesses Planted Community and Concussed Media of which I am extremely proud. Currently, I do not make as much money as I did when I was 28 (which believe me was a lot for a sports journalist), but I believe in what we are doing, have advocacy over my life and sleep soundly at night. Above all, I will be able to look our beautiful daughter Ella in the eye on my death bed (whenever that is) and say “I tried my hardest, lovely girl”. So if you’re stuck in a rut, soullessly crunching through the gears working for a corporate monster which you know deep down is simultaneously destroying our planet, trashing communities and jeopardising the very existence of our species, I say get out, choose life, choose hope, choose purpose.

Last week, the Planted Community editorial team caught up with Claire Wang from CECOCECO to hear about their #ArtMorph modular display panels which help designers "bring nature inside". Claire has seen a marked increase in designers and architects looking for biophilic interventions, as more and more people grasp the notion that exposure to nature or natural elements brings myriad health benefits - "improving employees’ mental and physical well-being, boosting productivity and creativity, and satisfaction at work." Bio Spaces is getting an update for the upcoming London Design Festival. Central to the update is: “The c(AI)rcle III “ , created by Portuguese design studio SPECTROOM for GENCORK as part of The c(AI)rcles Pentagon series, which has been exhibited in different cities around the world. This design/art installation, which explores the connection between artificial intelligence, (re)generative design, art, and sustainability, is made from SOFALCA’s expanded black cork, 100% natural material. “This exploratory circular structure, based on biomimetic principles, replicates organic natural phenomena, decoded by humans in co-creation with algorithmic computation and produced through CNC milling machines, unveiling new creative processes in the fields of contemporary art and design.
