📢 The poppy wave is back! This year you can see it presented on the recently refurbished Guildhall. The handmade, weatherproof poppies were created last year, with lots of them donated from schools, knitting clubs, Council staff and members of the public. The poppies will be on display until Remembrance weekend. Thank you TEC Construction Ltd for their help in displaying the feature!

Ahoy there! 🌊 Did you know that our city employs the largest number of people in the marine sector compared to any other local authority in the country? This is just one of the many interesting facts highlighted in the recently completed Plymouth Port Strategy. This new strategy provides a comprehensive overview of our ports' current status and outlines a clear direction for their future growth. We understand the crucial role that ports play in a city's economic livelihood, and the report's findings only solidify this fact. Supporting future growth in Plymouth's ports not only benefits the marine sector, but also has the potential to create 2,600 new jobs in our local economy by 2030. This is an exciting opportunity for businesses and individuals in our city. The report and its key findings will be discussed at the Council's Natural Infrastructure and Growth Scrutiny panel on 29 October. More information here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eVU9s5Vd

Would you like an opportunity to make a real difference to families in our community? We are currently seeking volunteers to join independent panels to help decide on appeals for school places. As a member of this panel, you will have the authority to review and consider decisions made not to admit a child into a school. You will carefully examine evidence presented by both schools and parents, and ultimately determine whether the unique circumstances of the family warrant overturning the decision of the admissions authority. 🏡 Plymouth Regeneration Forum has been re-formed and revitalised after a hiatus of five years to help the city work together to face development challenges and opportunities. The forum was set up in the early 2000s off the back of the Mackay Vision and in recognition of the role partners play in turning that vision for the city into a reality. The forum has been revived by the Council and legal firm Womble Bond Dickinson as a way to catch up with key investors, landowners and other development stakeholders and to discuss planning issues affecting the city. It comprises architects, surveyors, developers, funders and planners active in and committed to Plymouth. The intent is to facilitate better relationships between the Council and the development industry through genuine partnership and collaborative approaches to deliver service excellence within the city. 💗 You can change Everything for a local child Foster For Plymouth has released a film that aims to recruit new foster carers. It’s the seventh film produced by a growing partnership of councils and children’s trusts to promote local authority fostering. On Friday, they held a spectacular event at which foster carers spoke about what it means to open their homes and their hearts to care for a local child. One of the foster carers said: “I’ve been a foster carer for 10 years with Plymouth City Council. It’s a really rewarding experience. “As a foster carer, you receive a brilliant training package through the Council. There are support groups where foster carers can meet up together. That support network is absolutely there. I wouldn’t change it for the world!” To watch the film and for more information about becoming a foster carer, visit ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eEgpg8Kc
