Today, we announce the appointment of two senior industry figures, Gene Lockhart and Malcolm Le May, to our board. As the former President of Mastercard International and former CEO of Vanquis Banking Group respectively, Gene and Malcolm bring a wealth of experience and expertise to support Pockit’s continued growth. These appointments follow Pockit’s announcement of the acquisition of Monese, subject to Change in Control approval by the FCA. This marks a significant step in our mission to create the leading fintech for financially underserved and lower-middle-income consumers across the UK and Europe. #Fintech #FinancialInclusion #Growth #Pockit #Monese #Leadership
About us
Over a million people in the UK still don't have a current account - they have often been ignored by traditional financial services and miss out on what many consider an everyday norm, such as internet shopping. In this report we show that these people are having to pay up to an additional £485 per year through higher energy bills, phone contracts and more expensive loans - simply because they don't have a current account.

At Pockit, we understand that being excluded from affordable credit isn’t just an inconvenience—it’s a barrier to achieving goals and managing day-to-day expenses. Tom (a pseudonym to protect his identity) is a self-employed contractor from Lancashire who encountered the harsh reality of credit exclusion. When an online loan application went awry, Tom was left with unexpected charges and a damaged credit score, preventing him from accessing the funds needed to keep his business running. Tom's story is not unique—many face similar struggles in accessing affordable credit. This is a reflection of a larger issue impacting those who can’t easily open a bank account or secure a loan. Pockit is dedicated to providing accessible, safe, and fair financial solutions. Our ‘Income Advance’ product offers a secure way for individuals to get the funds they need, avoiding the pitfalls of predatory lending. https://lnkd.in/e8FUUZzR #DigitalInclusion #EmpoweringCommunities #FairCreditForAll #FinancialInclusion #Pockit #UKFintech

We are excited to announce that Pockit has acquired European fintech Monese. This is an exciting step for the business and our Founder and CEO Virraj Jatania, who will continue to lead the business through the next chapter of our growth. The deal will have no impact on customers of either Pockit or Monese, with both services continuing to run independently. Customers of both businesses will, in the long term, benefit from an expanded product offering and technology stack. With safe lending options disappearing, too many people are being forced into dangerous situations. At Pockit, we’re committed to making a difference—but real change requires collective action. Our Founder and CEO, Virraj Jatania, highlights the growing crisis of affordable credit in the UK and its impact on vulnerable communities in an important article for Big Issue. Follow the link below to read now and learn how we can all play a part in ensuring everyone has access to the credit they need 👇
As the cost of living crisis deepens, millions of people across the UK are struggling to access the affordable credit they need to navigate unexpected expenses and financial challenges. The stark reality is that, while demand for short-term loans skyrockets, the availability of safe and affordable credit is rapidly diminishing. In a piece for Big Issue, I discuss how this shortage is pushing vulnerable individuals toward illegal loan sharks, resulting in tragic consequences. The stories are heartbreaking, and the need for action is urgent. At Pockit, we believe the financial services industry must do more to support those who are being left behind. From income advance products to credit-building tools, there are ways to help—but we cannot do it alone. It’s crucial that the new government steps up with a robust financial inclusion strategy to address this growing crisis. This is more than just about finance; it’s about protecting lives and ensuring that everyone has access to the credit they need to live with dignity. 🔗 Read the full article below: https://lnkd.in/eG8kRz3W #DigitalInclusion #EmpoweringCommunities #FairCreditForAll #FinancialInclusion #Pockit #UKFintech

There is a severe shortage of responsible, regulated, and affordable credit options for people with low credit scores, irregular employment history, or other financial vulnerabilities. When the most vulnerable are excluded from the financial system, desperation can drive them into the hands of dangerous loan sharks, putting them at risk of intimidation and violence. This is a reality we can’t ignore. Our #FairCreditForAll campaign aims to shed light on these challenges and highlight the struggles people face when they’re cut off from affordable credit and financial services. To support those who might otherwise be left behind, we offer two key services, ‘Fast Track to Credit,’ which helps users build or rebuild their credit safely and quickly with payments reported to major UK credit agencies, and ‘Income Advance,’ which provides early access to salary, helping manage unexpected expenses and reducing reliance on high-interest loans. 🔗Our founder and CEO, Virraj Jatania, spoke about the urgent need to tackle loan sharks with MailOnline. “A 2023 survey revealed that over three million people in the UK had borrowed money from illegal lenders in the past three years,” our Founder and CEO, Virraj Jatania, recently told Harvey D. at This Is Money. He discussed how these predatory lenders often target the most vulnerable in our society—those who feel they have no other financial options—leading to devastating consequences. Katie (a pseudonym) is one such individual. Desperate to make ends meet during the holiday season, she borrowed £1,000 from a loan shark, only to find herself paying back more than £3,500 over the course of a few months. What followed was a nightmare of escalating threats, harassment and fear. Her story is a stark reminder of the dangers that illegal money lending poses to the most vulnerable. This is not just one isolated case - there are many more people like Katie. This is a reflection of a larger issue that affects people who might struggle to open a current account at a traditional bank. At Pockit, we understand the critical need for accessible, safe and fair financial services. Our ‘Income Advance’ product offers a secure and straightforward way for people to access the funds they need without resorting to dangerous loan sharks. It is designed to securely help those who are facing financial hardship by giving them a responsible alternative to manage their everyday finances, even if they struggle with poor credit.
