As a long-time donor, first-time doer, I've never needed to ask for sponsorship. Until now.... here's why 👇 Against my understanding of human physiology, I will participate in a sponsored ‘fire walk’ – hot coals, flames, and possibly the smell of my feet charring in the spring sunshine – later this month in aid of The Care Workers' Charity. If you’d like to sponsor me, you can do so here: https://lnkd.in/eM8Shcrz For those who don’t know, aside from 14 years at PLMR advising care providers, I also had seven years of direct family experience arranging and managing the care of my Gran, firstly in her own home, and then in a care home. As she lived in Cornwall throughout (you couldn't possible take a proud Cornish woman out of the county), and as I didn’t have any local family support, I was exceptionally reliant on the kindness, compassion and generosity of her care team to both do the day-to-day and to respond quickly when anything went wrong…. try getting a plumber into someone’s house when they have advanced dementia! I cannot speak more highly of the care she received from a range of home care agencies and latterly her care home in Hayle, and I think it speaks to the strength of the relationship carers have with the people they support that three of them attended her funeral. For those not familiar with the Care Workers’ Charity, it is a benevolent fund and advocacy organisation for the UK’s 1.5 million professional care workers – 60% of whom are paid below the National Living Wage, and often lack access to employment rights that desk-based workers (like me) take for granted, particularly sick pay. If you would like to support me and, more importantly, the charity, please donate below. 😇 If you don't like me, but will enjoy the photographic and video evidence of me walking on fire, please also donate below. 😈

🚨 Braced for Impact - our latest edition of On the Pulse is out now! As we enter April, the health and care sector appears to be on the brink of a significant shift. A new NHS England Chair, a Spring Statement with no new money for care, falling investment in mental health, judicial reviews from the care sector, and welfare reforms that could push hundreds of thousands into poverty - all against the backdrop of record demand and unprecedented system strain. Read more in this week's newsletter brought to you by PLMR's team of health and social care experts: Nathan Hollow, Lucy Taylor, Jessica Peddie, and Michela Bandilla 👇

Thank you to everyone who joined our webinar on making an impact at Labour Party Conference! It was great to hear about the importance of party conferences, as well as how organisations can get the most out of the conference season and engage directly with Ministers, MPs and their staff. A big thank you to our speakers Ben Farmer and Ann Kennedy MBE for sharing their insights, and to our chair Simon Darby for facilitating. 📹 Missed the session or want to learn more about how PLMR can support your organisation through our PLMR Policy Hub? Racial health disparities in the UK have reached a critical point, with people of colour experiencing significantly worse outcomes in access and treatment. The pandemic made these inequalities impossible to ignore, but acknowledging the problem is only the first step. In our latest blog, Jessica Peddie explores how communications, PR, and public affairs can help shift the narrative and push for lasting systemic change ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eGcsWNFe

🚨 NEW PODCAST LAUNCH 🚨 Our Health and Social Care Practice has launched a new podcast, building on the success of our existing weekly 'On The Pulse' newsletter. They have a simple plan: ⌚ 15 minutes (or less) per episode. 🧠 Genuinely expert analysis of the media or politics. 🔍 New insights unavailable elsewhere. Having hosted the Providers Unite organisers at the PLMR office during the inspiring day of action, who better to join us for our first episode than founder Katrina Hall. By starting a hugely successful grassroots movement, Kat has done something very few have achieved in any sector, let alone social care. She sat down with Jessica Peddie to discuss why she did it, how she did it, and what's next for Providers Unite. Spotify: https://lnkd.in/eRfj67qe Apple: https://lnkd.in/ehe_JJTj
