With the 2024 #AutumnBudget expected tomorrow, we know public affairs, and policy professionals will be deep into an email thread, live document, or Teams' chat with several iterations of a post-budget statement. But, with all those voices weighing in, it can often be all too easy to forget what really matters when crafting your response. Here are four things you may want to consider when you come to look over all the many (and hopefully polite) suggestions from colleagues in the morning. Also, if you plan to share your statement on social media, make sure to loop in social managers and teams in early enough so they can be on standby. They can be integral in making sure you really deliver on bullet one under point four! #InfluencingWithPrinciple #Policy #PublicAffairs #Lobbying #CharityComms

We’re committed to investing in the next generation of policy and public affairs leaders. That's why we were thrilled to welcome four students from Uxbridge, who are learning English as a second language, to complete their work experience with us. Amanjeet and Layaq were kind enough to share their thoughts about three political issues that are important to them and that they wanted their local parliamentary candidates to address. From what our team have reading, some insights from across the public affairs, campaigning, policy and charity space this week. On Wednesday, Rachel Reeves will present her first Autumn Budget (the first from a Labour Chancellor since 2010). The ever-useful Institute for Government weighed in on six things to watch for, including if there will be clarity for public services and investment. https://lnkd.in/e35zp6FM As councils continue to face tough budgetary choices of their own, NAVCA & Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales have put out guidance for charities that rely on local authority funding about the warning signs and what to expect in the case of a 'section 114' council bankruptcy. https://lnkd.in/esQMNUau How would you like to see the NHS change? Towards a new 10-Year Health Plan for England, Department of Health and Social Care have launched the "biggest ever" health consultation, with five questions that organisations have until December 2nd to respond to. https://lnkd.in/eA5DT_qY #healthpolicy #publicaffairs #charitycampaigns #Budget2024

Ever wondered how we bring advocacy campaigns to life? Here's a peek into how we worked with Barnardo's, Action for Children ,NSPCC, The Children's Society, and the National Children's Bureau to proudly support the Children's Charities Coalition in their ambitions to put children at the heart of the next Government. See how we delivered this campaign together with our lead consultants: Othnielle Blake, who led on the campaign strand and, Becky Hug, who led on the public affairs and policy strand. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eWGPddMx #InfluencingWithPrinciple #CreativeAdvocacy #CampaignStrategy #Participation #CharityCampaign #Policy #PublicAffairs #CharityConsultants

Some insights worth reading from across the space this week. Are you thinking about axing X? Our Head of Campaigns & Digital Othnielle explored this tough question for charities and possible alternatives, following CharityComms' decision to scale back its presence over the rise of divisive content on the platform (formerly known as Twitter). https://lnkd.in/eJ8Hngf7 On the same theme, in PRWeek Jonathan Owen noted police forces are becoming more cautious about the platform and that while the Government uses X for official comms, it doesn't use the platform for any paid activity. https://lnkd.in/eqFJ78uM Thinking about setting up an APPG? PoliticsHome's Sophie Church looked at the new rules making it tough to secure officers and Conservative MPs in particular, and spoke to charities The British Liver Trust and Max Appeal about their challenges. https://lnkd.in/eiHUadGk As #Budget24 draws nearer on October 30th, ministers are worried about what the Chancellor's drive to find £40bn worth of cuts will mean for their own departments and frontline services. Eleni Courea reports in The Guardian. https://lnkd.in/eWDKvj2t And from LabourList, we saw a handy rundown of which Labour MPs have been picked to sit on crucial Select Committees, including many fresh faces elected in July. https://lnkd.in/eMwYXhif #InfluencingWithPrinciple #publicaffairs #campaigning #charitycampaigns #policy #charity

Another proud client moment was this panel event at this year's #LabourConference. The #housing crisis in the UK must be addressed and facilitation of discussions with experts in their field is a crucial step in achieving such change. The Government is listening and we're pleased to be able to provide consultancy support to Kate Markey and the team at Nationwide Foundation to make their vision for #HomesForAll a reality. #InfluencingWithPrinciple New Statesman Lead Consultant - Jane Cox
At Labour's recent party conference, we hosted a panel discussion, in collaboration with the New Statesman, on the future of housing and the need for a long-term strategy. The event featured Minister for Housing Matthew Pennycook MP, Chair of the Treasury Select Committee, @Meg Hillier MP, Satvir Kaur MP, @David Orr, Homes for All lead and former CEO of the National Housing Federation, and our CEO Kate Markey. In our latest article, we share some reflections and highlights from the event (plus photos). Thank you to everyone who attended the session (it was standing room only!) and our speakers for their contributions to a fantastic discussion. https://lnkd.in/ewpy9i62

Our latest roundup of what our team has been reading. This week, James Cleverly was unexpectedly knocked out of the Conservative leadership contest by the party's MPs - in the Financial Times, Lucy Fisher profiled the final two contenders. https://lnkd.in/esB2PYUF Meanwhile in the New Statesman, George Eaton explored reactions on the Labour side to the Tory leadership contest developments, and what it could mean for the nature of the Opposition. https://lnkd.in/eUEfCt4V On Thursday the Government announced the membership of seven Cabinet committees - the Institute for Government explores what they are, along with the Government's five new "mission boards". https://lnkd.in/eG_sz-CK The Nuffield Trust commented on what the new Employment Bill means for care workers, while some charities also responded. Nuffield Trust: bit.ly/3BHm0va Young Lives vs Cancer: https://bit.ly/4dMlwkJ Carers UK: bit.ly/3XZCKoZ Young Women's Trust: bit.ly/3BHmcKU And in Civil Society Media Ltd, Tristan Blythe wrote about civil society's relationship with the new Government, the new "covenant" coming in 2025, and how this compares to the past. https://lnkd.in/e5B8n26i #publicaffairs #charitycampaigns #InfluencingWithPrinciple

We loved facilitating this event filled for our client, nurtureuk. Not only were the contributions from all the panel insightful and thought-provoking, we were also able to capture authentic first-person stories of the impact nurture has on children from James Roach. Always a pleasure to support our clients and help them continue to #InfluenceWithPrinciple. The expert panel consisted of Sharon White, Arti Sharma, Lib Peck, Sarah Hall MP, Catherine McKinnell MP, and expertly chaired by Anne Longfield CBE. To see more great clips from the event visit nurtureuk page on LinkedIn and continue to support the great they are doing enable every child to learn and be #HappyInSchool.
It was brilliant hearing from James Roach; CEO of the Inclusive Multi Academy Trust, the other week at our Labour Party Conference event. 🎤 Inclusive approaches to education can support pupils' social, emotional and mental health needs which in turn can help to keep them in school. With sufficient #nurture and support from adults, children can develop the skills and resilience they need to cope with stressful experiences and improve their mental health, in turn allowing them to become ready to learn at school. 📖📚

The room was filled with energy and ambition for change! And, we don't just say that because we were lucky enough to have previously worked with the coalition on the branding, concept, report and more - we say it because these young people are filled with ideas of how the world needs to be a better place and how this Government can help do it. And that can only happen with #ChildrenAtTheTable. We're just thrilled to have had a stake in elevating their voices in some small way, and the team loved popping along to the reception in continued support of the great work the coalition are doing. Did you also manage to pop along to the reception? If you did, we're sure you'll agree the young people were absolutely sensational. #InfluencingWithPrinciple #LabourPartyConference
“We are the next generation. Our ideas need to be heard to change the way the Government works and to make the UK better.” – A young person. Inspiring days at the #LabourConference2024! Our panel on child poverty featured powerful stories from young people directly affected by the issue, highlighting how crucial their voices are in driving meaningful change. We engaged in valuable discussions with policymakers and thought leaders about improving outcomes for children and young people, and we're looking forward to continuing these impactful conversations. A big thank you to everyone who engaged with us at the conference. Together, we can make a significant impact. #ChildrenAtTheTable #YouthVoices #ThankYou
