Shedding light on suicidality within the UK Black community. Let's co-produce insights and drive positive change.
About us
The content on this page discusses sensitive topics related to mental health and suicide prevention. This information may be distressing to some readers. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger or experiencing a crisis, please seek help from a mental health professional or contact emergency services. The resources shared here are intended to provide support and raise awareness. Shining a Light on Suicidality in the UK Black Community At Project Soul Stride, we're driving an independent, citizen science-led review focused on suicidality in the UK’s Black community—an issue long overlooked and underrepresented. With the release of the 2023 Suicide Prevention Strategy for England, now is the time for the Black community to stand up, make our voices heard, and inspire meaningful change. We’ve engaged with over 165 stakeholders from the NHS, Public Health, Academia, and grassroots organizations who share our vision for a brighter, healthier future. Together, we’re working to amplify awareness, shift policy, and ensure mental health services become more culturally competent and accessible. Our Objectives: 👉🏾Raise Awareness: Highlight the critical gaps in suicide prevention for Black communities. 👉🏾Drive Change: Advocate for improved policies, resources, and culturally sensitive mental health services. 👉🏾Build Partnerships: Collaborate with leaders, mental health professionals, and community organizations to create lasting impact. If you're passionate about creating change and want to be part of a solution, join us in our efforts. Together, we can make a difference. #ProjectSoulStride #MentalHealthAwareness #SuicidePrevention #BlackMentalHealth

*Warning viewer discretion advised Just last week, the results of the new Harris Poll were released, with eye-opening detail about public perception of mental health and suicide. (US) Jill Harkavy-Friedman, PhD she-her and Shelby Rowe address the following questions: 👉🏾Has the public’s understanding of suicide changed over the years? If so, how? 👉🏾Do most people believe suicide can be prevented? 👉🏾Are there specific ways in which public understanding needs to increase? 👉🏾What did the Harris Poll reveal about the hesitations people have in seeking help? 👉🏾How can we all help increase understanding of mental health and how to be there for each other? 👉🏾Do different cultural groups have different levels of understanding of mental health? 👉🏾How many people have a personal connection to suicide? 👉🏾Do most people know someone who’s been affected? 👉🏾Do most people feel they know what to do to help someone who’s struggling? At Project Soul Stride, we’re inspired by the incredible innovations happening in mental health advocacy, like the Barbers Round Chair Project. So many organizations are actively working to improve outcomes for minoritised communities, yet valuable ideas often remain scattered and siloed. What if there was a way to harness this creativity and collaboration? Imagine a future where successful initiatives are easily identified and shared, creating a network of learning and growth. We’re quietly exploring avenues to connect these dots and amplify the impact of these transformative ideas. Stay tuned for more updates as we cultivate this vision! 🙏🏾 #ProjectSoulStride #MentalHealth #Innovation #Collaboration https://lnkd.in/esUCgmJP
