Last week we launched our brand new programme, Canteen to Classroom, and we couldn't be happier that it's been so well received. Educating children on the impact of their food choices is essential in nurturing future generations that are both health and environmentally conscious. 🌿🌍 So, what does the program offer? ✅ Ready-to-use lesson plans and resources that align with the national curriculum ✅ Children feel empowered to learn more about what's on their plate ✅ Support for school's sustainability goals All available free-of-charge, Canteen to Classroom's ready-to-use lesson plans and resources help children to learn about the food they eat: where it comes from, how it’s made, and its impact on both our health and the planet. Check out our blog with all the details: https://hubs.ly/Q02V5Bw80 Could you help us to spread the word even further? Do you have connections to head teachers, school sustainability leads, educators? We'd love it if you could share the link to our programme (https://hubs.ly/Q02V5BFw0), and help us to support children's understanding of the connection between what's on their plate with their health, and the environment. #sustainability #ecoschools #teachers #teaching #ukteachers #schools #ukschools #SchoolPlates #HealthyEating #PlantBased #ProVegUK #PlantbasedCookingInSchools #SchoolFood #SchoolCatering

Today, the UK Health Alliance on Climate Change has published a new policy report: Plant-powered Planet: Building a Healthy & Sustainable Food System 🌿 Following the report, Colette Fox, our Head of Programme at ProVeg UK, shared: "We’re really happy to hear that healthcare services are being encouraged to proiritise nutrition, and the planet. Transformation of the UKs food system is urgently needed to tackle the health and climate crises we’re facing. Hospital plates, much like school plates, need a revolution, where both the recipient and the planet will benefit from a sustainable menu. We’ve already seen immensely positive change through our School Plates programme, and know that a better food system is completely possible. This feels like a great next-step." The report puts forward six recommendations for the governments of the UK to drive a just transition to sustainable and healthy food systems: - Drive sustainable agricultural transformation  - Cut food waste by half by 2030 - Fuel innovation by investing in a sustainable, plant-powered food future - Develop a new national food strategy with plant-based food at the core - Revolutionise school meals by promoting health and sustainability with plant-based choices for the next generation - Subsidise and incentivise plant-based choices and cut red meat and dairy by 30% by 2030 Find the full report here: https://lnkd.in/e-z6Eztb

Hi there Linkedin community! ✨ Martin here, the Education Manager at ProVeg UK. We just launched a new programme and I’m really keen to share it with you! This is particularly exciting for schools, teachers, and climate leaders, so we’d love it if you could share with anyone in your network. Back in 2018, ProVeg UK launched our School Plates programme, and since then we've worked with over 7,000 schools, over a third of local authorities, and have more than 1,000,000 children eating more plant-based meals through School Plates. We realised we were making huge positive changes in the canteen, but hadn’t prepared any resources to directly support children with understanding the importance of these changes. Educating children on the impact of their food choices is essential in nurturing future generations who are both health and environmentally conscious. Children today care about climate change more than any other generation. According to a UNICEF report, nine out of 10 children are worried about climate change, with 89% of children saying they don’t feel enough is being done to tackle the climate crisis and 81% feeling that they are not being listened to. We wanted to help. That’s where Canteen to Classroom comes in - a programme we’ve worked hard to develop. It provides teachers with the essential tools they need to support children in learning about the food they eat: where it comes from, how it’s made, and its impact on our health and the planet. The lessons are ‘ready-to-go’ with high-quality, evidence-based lesson plans, engaging lesson presentations, tailored plans for EYFS, KS1, LKS2 and UKS2, and great additional resources. They have everything that’s needed to explore and learn about tasty food, health, justice, animals, and the environment. The Department for Education has set a target for all schools in England to have a climate action plan in place by 2025. Our programme can work in tandem and help educational settings achieve sustainability goals, so that planning becomes action. Involving children, young people, and learners is imperative to inspire their enthusiasm and to help drive positive change. We are so pleased to get this programme up and running, and can’t wait to work with so many of you. So please, dive in! Check out the webpage. Download the resources. Get involved. 🌿✏️ https://lnkd.in/eFpbewsn If you have any questions, reach out to me at martin.skingley@proveg.org. I’d love to chat. IT’S SCOTLAND CLIMATE WEEK! 🌿🌍 School catering constitutes the largest segment of public sector catering in the UK, accounting for 45% of all meals served. That’s 1.2 billion every year that could be adapted to help the environment. Here’s to celebrating Councils in Scotland who have received our Bronze School Plates Award for taking steps to make their school catering more planet-friendly. 👏 - Renfrewshire - Midlothian - South Ayrshire - Fife We also support a further seven authority partners in Scotland. Moving towards plant-rich diets is one of the most impactful actions we can take to reduce our environmental footprint. We need to eat more plants and less meat and dairy for the future of our planet, and our School Plates programme is helping to do exactly this! The Government's official advisory panel for climate change, the Climate Change Committee (CCC), has called for a 20% shift away from all meat by 2030, rising to 35% by 2050, and a 20% shift from dairy products by 2030 in order to put the UK on the path to net zero. By taking small, easy steps, we can make a huge difference to the environment. #scotclimateweek #SchoolPlates #ProVegUK #SchoolFood #SchoolCatering #SustainableEating #SustainableLiving Renfrewshire Council Midlothian Council South Ayrshire Council Fife Council

To protect children's futures, we need to ensure we're promoting sustainable eating habits that support their health, and the health of our fragile planet. 💚🌱🌎 Through our pioneering School Plates programme, we’re working with 25% of local authorities responsible for school food, feeding over a million children every day. That’s a million children who are accessing high-quality, sustainable and nutritious meals. 💪 But don't just take our word for it. Did you catch our latest online workshop on the carbon footprint of school food?👀🌎👣 You might be surprised at just how many emissions are attributed to animal products alone! 🐄 Animal agriculture is responsible for a whopping 20% of global greenhouse gas emissions. In order for schools to slash emissions and promote more sustainable eating habits, we need to get more plant-based dishes on menus. 💪🌱 Catch up on June's webinar. ⬇️ https://hubs.ly/Q02FfbNm0
