Pump Aid
Non-profit Organizations
We are working to end water poverty and aid dependency in remote, rural communities in Malawi.
About us
Pump Aid is a UK registered international non-governmental organisation that's core purpose is the delivery of affordable, appropriate and sustainable technologies to meet the water and sanitation needs of rural communities in sub-Saharan Africa. Currently many rural communities are forced to drink water from rivers, lakes and open, unprotected wells, where the water is left vulnerable to contamination from waterborne diseases and is often many kilometres from home. Pump Aid strives to help rural communities access clean water, which exists as little as 2-3 metres underground in some areas. Since 1998 Pump Aid has worked in Zimbabwe, Liberia and Malawi to deliver over 9,500 Elephant Pump water projects, transforming the lives of more than 1.35 million people. Pump Aid has technical expertise in well digging and deepening, sustainability, construction and installation of low-cost hand pump called Elephant Pump and training of beneficiaries in pump installation, maintenance and repair. Alongside our technical expertise Pump Aid also has over 19 years experience working with corporate partners. The impact we have on the ground is significant and sustainable so brands know that by supporting Pump Aid they are leaving a legacy they can be proud of.

It's #GlobalHandwashingDay today! At Pump Aid, we know that something as simple as handwashing can save lives. By providing clean water and handwashing stations in rural Malawi, we’re empowering communities to prevent the spread of diseases and protect their health. 💧 Clean hands mean healthier children, stronger communities, and brighter futures. 🧼 https://lnkd.in/e7GvWyc3

This #internationaldayofthegirlchild, we are empowering girls like Bridget, one pump at a time! With access to clean water, girls in Malawi can focus on their education, health, and building a brighter future. Together, we can make a lasting difference. 💧 For three months, pupils, teachers, and communities went without clean water until Pump Aid stepped in to repair and maintain the broken pump. Bridget Zulu, a 14-year-old student, shared how it affected their health and learning: 'We had no safe water to drink or even clean our classrooms and toilets. Our health was at great risk.' 🌍

The Chimbuli Child Based Care Centre (CBCC), which started with less than ten children, has now become a nurturing ground for over 150 young minds. 📚 Pump Aid facilitated a training programme for the service providers of Chimbuli CBCC. The training aimed to combat malnutrition and stunting among children, thereby increasing their access to early child development and learning opportunities.🌽 The story of Chimbuli CBCC is one of hope, where every initiative, every effort, and every vegetable grown is a step towards a brighter future for the children. 🌍

In Malawi, the burden of water collection falls heavily on women and girls, deepening gender inequality and limiting their access to education and employment opportunities.🌍 In Part 3 of our blog series, students from Princeton University Economic Development Organization examine the link between gender equality and water access in Malawi. Discover how water scarcity impacts women’s daily lives and how improving water infrastructure and hygiene can empower women, promote gender equality, and transform communities. 💧 https://lnkd.in/enVBKZbb
