AGRA President Alice Ruhweza this morning paid a courtesy on African Development Bank Group President, Akinwumi Adesina. As #AGRA enters the next decade driving sustainable agricultural transformation for Africa’s small-holder farmers, strategic partnerships and collaboration remain at the center of our operations. #AGRA will continue working with partners like #AFDB in pursuing joint initiatives on climate finance and in sharing knowledge on enhancing small-holder farmers, who are often the most vulnerable to the impact of climate change and market failures. "Women are Mother Nature." – Alice Ruhweza President of AGRA . This International Women's Month, we celebrate the women at the heart of agriculture—feeding families, shaping communities, and driving food security across Africa. When women thrive in agriculture—with land, finance, and opportunity—entire nations grow stronger. It's time to build a food system that works for them and with them. #IWD2025 #WomenInAgriculture #AfricaFoodSystems #FoodSecurity #InvestInWomen #AFSF2025

Today, as we celebrate #InternationalWomen’sDay, we shine a spotlight on the transformative role of women in cross-border trade—a key driver of economic growth, regional integration, and food security across Africa. Despite their immense contribution, women traders face significant barriers, including inaccessibility of land, limited access to finance, unfair pay, high trade tariffs, lack of information on market regulations, and security risks at border points. It’s time to break these barriers and unlock their full potential. How can we make cross-border trade more inclusive for women? 🔹 Improve Access to Finance: Create gender-responsive financing models to enable women traders to scale their businesses. 🔹 Harmonize Trade Policies: Simplify trade regulations and ensure women have easy access to information on tariffs and customs procedures. 🔹 Enhance Market Linkages: Strengthen trade networks that connect women entrepreneurs to buyers across borders. 🔹 Ensure Safe Trading Environments: Address gender-based violence and harassment at border points by enforcing security measures and empowering women with legal protections. 🔹 Leverage Digital Tools: Equip women with digital platforms for seamless transactions, market access, and business growth. Women are not just traders—they are game-changers in regional commerce. By investing in their success, we drive inclusive economic development and strengthen Africa’s position in global trade. Let’s commit to action!
