It’s Tax Terminology Tuesdays time, where we take a close look at a lesser-known word or phrase related to tax and compliance and break it down in more depth 🙌 Have you heard of the Agency Conduct Regulations? These rules came into force in 2004 with a view to implementing a set of minimum standards for the conduct of the private recruitment industry in the UK. What does this have to do with tax and compliance? As part of the regulations, an ‘opt-out’ provision was introduced for limited company contractors to allow them to retain greater flexibility and control over a project - a factor which could be important for supporting an ‘outside’ IR35 status. It’s everyone’s favourite time of the week… Tax Terminology Tuesdays! Today, we’re looking at contracted-out services 🔎 Also known as ‘outsourced services’ or 'managed services', contracted-out services are a source of some confusion when it comes to IR35 compliance. Under the off-payroll rules, if a medium or large business (or public sector body) is in receipt of contracted-out services then they are not responsible for the IR35 determinations of any limited company contractors within that service. It is in fact the responsibility of the supplier of the services (subject to them being a medium or large company themselves) to determine the IR35 status of any limited company contractors within the supply chain. Whether an arrangement is or is not a contracted-out service can be difficult to determine, so many organisations seek external advice and support on to ensure they correct assessment on the nature of the relationship with their suppliers. Yesterday, the Qdos team enjoyed our first annual away day! 🎉 We headed out to the stunning Prestwold Hall, a historic venue nestled in the countryside near Qdos HQ. We kicked off with brunch to fuel the team, followed by a business and strategy update and a collaborative session to discuss and define our company culture💡 The fun continued with a competitive pub quiz, and then things got really interesting with some taskmaster-style challenges 🎯 Finally, we rounded off the day with drinks and a BBQ. Thankfully, the weather held out! ☀️ A huge shoutout to our amazing team for their energy and enthusiasm throughout the day. It’s our people who make Qdos what it is 🙌
