  • Where a significant hazard has been identified it is the duty of the operator to ensure that a Geotechnical Assessment is carried out by a Geotechnical Specialist. Whilst the operator appoints a Geotechnical Specialist it remains the duty of the operator to: 1. Ensure that any significant findings and conclusions are recorded by the geotechnical specialist and that the geotechnical specialist signs and dates the document and records his professional qualifications 2. Ensure that any information available to him which may be relevant for the purposes of a geotechnical assessment is made available to the geotechnical specialist undertaking that assessment 3. Ensure that any remedial works identified during the geotechnical assessment are completed by the date specified If you need to select a Geotechnical Specialist, download the QNJAC guidance here 👉🏻 https://t.ly/-Lx-R Please share this post with your colleagues and customers and help us make our industry a safer place. • It is important to remember contractors and that they should be included in the audit process. Regular contractors may be responsible for load & haul, drill & blast and other activities so involve them in the audit process, including any planning so that they can contribute their knowledge and understanding. For other contractors check that procedures for managing excavations and tips are in place, and that they are understood and effective. Together with a host of industry experts QNJAC has produced a self-audit form to help you identify weaknesses in the systems on site that could lead to serious injury or loss of life. • Quarries Reg 43 requires that, where health surveillance is required, it must commence before a person begins to carry out such work. An OH base-line can thereby be established and early detection of occupationally-related ill health can enable remedial actions to be taken.
