Surrey Manor – Enhancing Natural Beauty The redesign of this Surrey Manor seamlessly combined functionality with charm, enhancing its natural beauty. A formal driveway, framed by manicured hedges and expansive lawns, sets a grand tone on arrival. Beyond, the southern gardens unfold with semi-circular lawns, vibrant parterre planting, cascading water canals, scented climbers, and an ornamental reflective pond. To the west, a terrace invites al fresco dining with uninterrupted views of the rolling landscape. Pathways and mown lawns connect seamlessly to the swimming pool garden, where a paved terrace, fire pit, and surrounding meadow soften the transition into the woodland beyond. Sanctuary in the sky | A ramshackle roof terrace in London’s Royal Borough presented RSL with a major challenge, particularly as there was little access, so all trees, plants, pots, soil and material had to be craned up to the third floor. Rising to the challenge, RSL set about creating an elegant, functional, fragrant sanctuary in the sky. The dingy decking was replaced with Western red cedar that silvers beautifully with age, and harsh metal railings gave way to slatted cedar trellis swathed in scented jasmine. Big planters, also in Western red cedar, provide generous space for flowers and help disguise the skylight.
