Did you know we played a significant role in the the design, development and implementation of the Environment Agency's new National Flood Risk Assessment system (NaFRA2)? As part of NaFRA2's implementation, the government's Flood Map for Planning service is set to be updated with the latest data available. This will provide a single picture of current and future flood risk from rivers, the sea and surface water for England. But what does this mean for Strategic Flood Risk Assessments and how can we use the data available to support clients and build #Resilience? In our latest Insight Associate Director, Joanne Chillingworth, and Principal Analyst, Edward Hartwell, discuss the role NaFRA2 will play in simplifying SFRAs, the benefits of the new system and our hopes for the future. 📢New Report Published: UK methods for estimating Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP) and Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). We're excited to share that the latest report on UK methods for estimating PMP and PMF has been published today! Our Head of Hydrology, Duncan Faulkner, alongside colleagues at JBA, played a key role in leading this comprehensive review. Learn more about the report here https://lnkd.in/ezE2efvH Or find out more on our website https://lnkd.in/ekhrXSCE
The long-awaited report on improving UK methods for estimating the probable maximum precipitation and probable maximum flood has been published today. You can find it here: https://lnkd.in/etTriQfw I led this review, along with colleagues from JBA Consulting and a team that included Newcastle University (Hayley Fowler, Roberto Villalobos Herrera, David Pritchard), Wallingford HydroSolutions (Tracey Haxton), University of Bath (Thomas Kjeldsen) and Mott MacDonald (Alan Warren). The work was funded by the Environment Agency and Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru / Natural Resources Wales. Here's hoping that Phase 2 (development of new methods) will follow soon, so that we can be more confident in the ability of dams and other high-risk assets to stand up to the most severe floods, under current and future conditions.
