Science-based ecological restoration for climate, biodiversity and people
About us
rePLANET is a for-purpose company, aiming to drive large scale nature restoration and protection through private sector funding. We design and implement projects across the globe that generate significant carbon, biodiversity and social benefits. Carbon and/or Biodiversity Credits are produced throughout project lifetimes, these are attractively priced, transparent and inclusive of local communities, with a minimum of 60% of credit revenues being paid to local stakeholders. We are currently developing several projects in Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Scotland, Spain, Colombia and Indonesia. Project types range from riparian forest restoration with improved agriculture, to mangrove restoration and high nature value grassland protection. Our team distinguishes itself by being made up of scientific excellence, global networks and financial expertise and separate to project development is rePLANET's Nature-based Consultancy. The consultancy offers advisory services to organisations seeking to use innovative mechanisms to design, monitor and finance nature restoration and protection endeavours via insetting or offsetting. Last week Biodiversity Credit Alliance and University of Nottingham held the second ‘Theory of Change Workshop’ in Geneva🐝 Dr Dan Exton, rePLANET Chief of Staff, attended the workshop along with other BCA Task Force members, the IEG and key players from biodiversity and carbon sectors🍃 The workshop focus was collaboratively shaping the future of the biodiversity credit market by evaluating priorities and critical actions🤝 Key themes discussed were: ⌛️Demand integrity 🌿Biodiversity claims and their use ⚖️ Re-empowerment of Indigenous Peoples and local communities 💶Financial sector engagement 📄Development of policies and standards to support the market The BCA workshop consensus was - the biodiversity credit market is approaching a new phase in its development, alike the carbon market a decade ago, potentially putting biodiversity credits on the verge of exponential growth📈 It is therefore critical that we all strive to build the market on principles of high integrity, trust, transparency and fairness🔍 #BiodiversityCreditAlliance #TheoryofChange #BiodiversityCredits #BiodiversityCreditMarket #Biodiversity

🌿It’s exciting to see our work with Foresight Group driving real impact for nature recovery! ⛰️We collaborated with Foresight Natural Capital and Mozaic Earth to implement a biodiversity monitoring program across a large estate in the Scottish Highlands 📱By combining AI and smartphone-based monitoring with traditional field surveys, we established a biodiversity baseline to improve reporting, support land management and enable long-term monitoring 📈Integrating habitat assessments, plant diversity surveys, bioacoustic monitoring and invertebrate studies has provided a comprehensive and scalable way to track changes in biodiversity 💡Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eSuRaXBJ

Rotational Grazing: A Regenerative Approach to Livestock Management🌱 The agricultural sector has a major global ecological footprint, however, practices that reduce this + benefit productivity and longevity do exist 🌍 Rotational grazing is one example - this livestock management strategy rotates animals around pastures to allow grass time to recover before being grazed again. The system mitigates pasture overgrazing and soil erosion, promoting healthier land and livestock 🌿 Whilst a small cost may be incurred when setting up separate pastures e.g. for fencing and pasture water supplies, the financial and environmental benefits often make it worthwhile, these include: 🐄 Better Livestock Nutrition: Fresh, high-quality forage enhances animal growth, health and productivity ☁️ Carbon Sequestration: Well-managed pastures capture and store more carbon in their soils, helping to mitigate climate change 🐝 Increased Biodiversity: Rest periods allow forage to regrow, creating new habitats that increase diversity and abundance of soil microbes, pollinators and other wildlife 🌱 Enhanced Soil Quality and Water Retention: Healthier pastures hold more water, experience less soil erosion and thereby support long-term farm viability This regenerative practice is an excellent example of how working with nature can optimise both profitability and sustainability. Several rePLANET projects work closely with farmers to support transitions to rotational grazing systems💡 #RegenerativeFarming #SoilCarbon #RotationalGrazing #CarbonSequestration #Biodiversity

Why should your organisation report on nature?🌿🖋️ 🌍With over half of the world’s GDP dependent on nature, it forms the foundations of the global economy - it therefore comes as no surprise that the World Economic Forum is ranking biodiversity loss as the second most severe global risk to society between now and 2035. 🍃 Despite this, nature continues to be disregarded and destroyed, jeopardizing the potential for a sustainable society. More corporates need to invest in understanding their nature related risks so they can shift from aggravating to resolving the biodiversity loss crisis - this is key for sustainable business. Nature-related risks are relevant to most organisation's, materialising where: ◻️ Business operations are dependent on nature ◻️ Reputation is damaged due to business impacts on nature ◻️ Society is disrupted and market risks arise due to nature loss 💡Read the full blog to learn more about nature reporting and the frameworks, support and resources out there: https://lnkd.in/eAQQ2TXg #NatureReporting #TNFD #SBTN #BiodiversityLoss #SustainableBusiness

📱 🌍 AI, remote sensing, and digital tools can revolutionize how we track ecosystem health, but technology alone isn’t enough. The real challenge? Successfully bringing together the right people—tech providers, project developers, and investors—to practically turn innovation into impact. We were thrilled to host an insightful Nature Tech Collective (NTC Now) session, featuring Dr. Max Bodmer (rePLANET), Sylvain Vaquer (Mozaic Earth), and Helge Hansen (Foresight Group). They shared real-world lessons from a pioneering biodiversity project in the Scottish Highlands—where collaboration made all the difference. A huge thank you to Max, Sylvain, and Helge for your expertise and passion! 🙌 🔍 How can we foster stronger partnerships in nature tech? 🌍 What does truly scalable biodiversity monitoring look like? Animals shape ecosystems and their services🐂🦅🌿 💡An interesting report by Global Rewilding Alliance and their partners was published last week highlighting the importance of wild animals for ecosystem regulation. 🌊Wetland functionality and resilience was demonstrated to be highly dependent on wild animals, with large animals playing critical roles in wetland ecological character maintenance. Different species offer different services to ecosystems, these include: 🔨 Ecosystem engineering ♻️ Nutrient cycling 🍃 Invasive species control 🌱 Seed dispersal 🐟For example, neotropical fish maintain the diversity of tropical Amazon forests bordering their rivers by dispersing the seeds of over 100 tree species and bird excretions into water exchanges key nutrients between terrestrial and aquatic systems. 🌿The impact that fauna has on shaping habitats is often underestimated and this report is a compelling reminder that wild animal species diversity serves to enhance ecosystem services. Trophic downgrading and declines in wild animal populations threaten the ecological character of many ecosystems, protecting and restoring biodiversity will be critically important for their future. 👉 To read the full report, click here: https://lnkd.in/ek6mjBNb
