  • Over the past few weeks, we’ve been exploring 'nature as infrastructure.' Today, we’re delving deeper into why not all restoration claims are created equal and why this distinction matters. When discussing restoration projects, it's important to recognise the difference between low-order and middle-to-higher-order claims. Low-order efforts focus on specific species or habitats, often producing measurable but localised outcomes. On the other hand, middle-to-higher-order efforts restore entire ecosystems, offering systemic improvements in resilience and functionality. This isn’t a hierarchy of “better” or “worse” – it’s about comparing apples to oranges. Each approach serves unique goals, requiring different metrics and validation processes. For example, a low-order project might enhance a single species population, while a higher-order effort ensures ecosystem-wide recovery, benefiting biodiversity as a whole. 🔑 The takeaway? Claims should reflect the scope and nature of the restoration effort. Integrity lies in matching the type of claim to the investment's intent and impact, not overstating or undervaluing. At CreditNature, we align ourselves with nature projects that prioritise and understand the importance of ecosystem-wide restoration.     For a more in-depth understanding, take a look at the article. https://lnkd.in/d-XcEQEU     You can also view our projects here: https://lnkd.in/dXB2iAgZ and get in touch to invest in the restoration of ecosystem infrastructure that benefits both nature and people.    #CreditNature #EcosystemRecovery #InvestInNature #NatureAsInfrastructure

  • 🌍 Metrics: Evidence for Nature Restoration 🌍    At CreditNature, we’ve developed the NARIA Framework to evidence nature uplift because we believe metrics should capture the full complexity of ecosystems, not just isolated elements. And we’re not alone in this thinking.    Organisations like the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), the European Union Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (EU CSRD), and Science Based Targets Network (SBTN) advocate for ecosystem-based metrics that reflect integrity, connectivity, and resilience. These approaches move beyond single-species or habitat-specific metrics, ensuring that natural processes and interactions are captured, preserved and restored.    By integrating a hierarchy of ecosystem metrics, we can track improvements in ecosystem condition, providing a benchmark for natural capital value over time. This supports both environmental integrity and measurable returns on investment.    📌 Get in touch with us if you would like to invest in nature in a way that makes a lasting difference. 📌 https://lnkd.in/gQqBQqx9   #CreditNature #EcosystemRecovery #InvestInNature #NatureAsInfrastructure

  • 🌿 This week, Edmund Pragnell, Dan Bass, and Sophy Jones attended the Natural Capital Investment EMEA event, where we had the opportunity to connect with delegates and further the conversation on investing in nature. As sponsors of the event, we were excited to see Ed speak on the panel, "What is Nature Positive? Measuring and reporting impact in nature and biodiversity investments." The discussion reinforced the need for high-integrity metrics for measuring the impact of investments in nature. Ed emphasised the importance of taking an ecosystem approach to nature positive investment. By treating "Nature as Infrastructure" and investing in the underlying integrity and resilience of that infrastructure, investors can create more durable and higher quality ecosystem services, thus creating greater impact and greater financial returns. We are looking forward to continuing these conversations in the coming weeks! 🌍 #NatureFinance #NaturalCapital #InvestingInNature #CreditNature

  • The International Advisory Panel on Biodiversity Credits (IAPB) Roundtable and the Finance in Commons Summit, Cape Town, South Africa We are pleased to share that our International Lead, Dr. Simon Morgan, is in Cape Town, where he delivered the opening remarks at an IAPB roundtable event on the fringes of the Finance in Commons Summit, hosted by Sanlam and coordinated by the Sustainable Finance Coalition. Simon highlighted the urgent funding shortfall needed to safeguard biodiversity and the potential of biodiversity and nature credits as a market-based solution to mobilise new capital at scale. He emphasised the importance of recognising Nature as Infrastructure, viewing ecosystems as foundational assets essential for long-term resilience and economic stability. By positioning Nature as an Asset Class with rigorous metrics and a hierarchy of credible claims, we open new avenues for scalable investment, driving proactive, regenerative growth beyond traditional conservation funding. Simon also underscored the critical role of stewardship, ensuring that the preservation and stewardship of nature is a viable alternative to the destruction of natural landscapes for natural resources. Southern Africa has the unique opportunity to lead the way in developing biodiversity credit frameworks, leveraging its conservation expertise and robust financial networks. It is awesome that Simon is there to be a part of the broader discussions at FiCS and we hope the conference inspires meaningful dialogue and leads to impactful actions for nature investment and restoration. #CreditNature #NatureFinance #BiodiversityCredits #NatureAsInfrastructure

FRGS CGeog. Applied geography and nature tech for nature recovery, ecosystem uplift, rewilding, biodiversity & ecosystem services.

In a drive to contribute to the restoration of biodiversity and functioning ecosystems across our planet, the 'call of nature' has led me to a new stage in my career that combines and builds on my 'geography tech' background and my passion for wildlife and landscapes.   So, I am extremely pleased to say that I have joined one of the leaders in the 'nature tech/nature fintech' sector, CreditNature, where I am now 'Nature Products Lead'. I will be working with a fabulous team of subject matter specialists on CreditNature's flagship NARIA (Natural Asset Recovery Investment Analytics) product family, which measures, quantifies, and evidences ecosystem condition for project sites and those investing in nature's recovery. My life is now all about the tech, the science, and the metrics of landscape connectivity, vegetation spatial diversity, trophic function (food webs!), and bird trait diversity.   #naturemetrics #NatureAsInfrastructure #InvestInNature #BiodiversityCredits #NatureMarkets

  • 🌱 Interested in the difference between low and high-order nature interventions? In our latest article about Nature as Infrastructure, we unpack the difference. In nature restoration, the scale and focus of interventions determine their long-term impact and associated claims.    Higher-order interventions focus on ecosystems, ensuring connectivity, function, and resilience.  🌍 Benefits: Multiple returns, durable investments, and reduced maintenance costs. Metrics capture indicators like species dispersal, trophic function, and vegetation diversity, offering ecosystem-wide improvements in integrity and resilience.    Lower-order interventions target specific species or habitats, often emphasising rarity or local conservation priorities.  🐾 Challenges: Intensive management, isolated gains, and limited impact on overall ecosystem dynamics. Metrics focus on isolated indicators, such as species counts or habitat patches, without addressing broader ecosystem resilience.    At CreditNature, we prioritise higher-order efforts, unlocking sustainable, scalable solutions that reflect meaningful investments in nature.    📌 Get in touch with us if you would like to invest in nature in a way that makes an enduring difference to nature and people.     📌 https://lnkd.in/gQqBQqx9
