Do you work for a school in the Ribble Catchment? 🏫 You may not be aware but we do a wide variety of activities with schools from invasive species removal, river sampling and safety, site visits and project specific talks and activities! As part of the Ribble Revival: Room for Rivers Programme, we recently joined up with Bolton-by-Bowland C.E. primary school to talk about our upcoming work with leaky dams in the area and the benefits this will have for the local wildlife and community. If you'd like to know more about our school sessions, please email: education@ribbletrust.com #EnvironmentalEducation

Working together to improve our rivers 🐟
About us
We are the Ribble Rivers Trust and for over 20 years we’ve been working to protect and improve rivers, habitats, and the wider environment. Healthy rivers are essential to life as we know it; providing drinking water, enabling farmers to produce food, providing homes for wildlife, and places for people to relax, unwind, and enjoy the great outdoors. Together with the help of communities, schools, landowners, farmers, and our members we are changing public perception of rivers, educating young people, creating and connecting woodlands and other habitats, and much, much more.

Anybody lost a kitchen sink? 💦 This is one of many weird and not so wonderful things we've found on our recent litter picks ☹️ As well as the obligatory shopping trolley, we’ve also fished out some a few bikes, a micro scooter, a vacuum cleaner and, of course, single use plastic, glass, metal, and general fly tipping 🛒🚲🛴 If you can spare some time to help us on our mission to clean up our rivers, then sign up to become a volunteer. It’s easy, flexible, and you take control of your commitment levels! Discover more here 👇 https://lnkd.in/eTVXGE_p #RiverHeroes #Volunteers #Litter #RiverCleanUps #LitterPicks

Have you spotted a salmon yet this year? 🐟💦️👀 Last week we ran a guided walk around Stainforth, and we were lucky enough to spot some salmon jumping, and just look at that energy and power! 😍 Its amazing to see the stength these fish have, even though they've already travelled thousands of miles on their migration journey from the North Atlantic to North Yorkshire 🗺️🔍🐟 It's a treacherous journey, and the salmon will face may natural and manmade obstacles. Of course, predation is all part of the natural world, but man-made river-blocking barriers aren't! That's why our team work so hard to renaturalise our rivers, making them more passable, and making life a little easier for the salmon on this already risky journey. You can visit this exact site on our Stainforth circular walk, and hopefully you'll be lucky enough to spot a salmon 👇 https://lnkd.in/e3gGuJqC #SalmonRun #MigratorySalmon #FishMigration #Stainforth #WeekendWalks

Introducing one of our latest projects at Blackburn's Farm, Wrea Green 💚 Together we're working to create a new conservation area to support habitat for amphibians, invertebrates and a whole host of grassland and wetland species 🐸🐍🦎 The project will create a new wet grassland area, with ponds and scrapes which will be separated from the rest of the farm with a new hedgerow. The area is also being seeded with yellow rattle, which will reduce the coverage of dominant rye-grass, allowing the growth of rarer grass and wildflower species 🌻🐝 Discover more about the project, the partnership, and how this work benefits rivers in our latest blog post: https://lnkd.in/e2fnMNVj #Wetlands #Wildflowers #Hedgerows #HabitatCreation #WaterQuality #Rivers #BlackburnsFarm #WreaGreen

Ever heard of the Catchment Based Approach? It’s the approach we use to plan our river restoration work. The Catchment Based Approach looks after rivers by understanding that everything is connected- rainwater flows over hills and moorlands, through farms and fields, towns and industrial areas, picking up whatever's there before it reaches rivers. By managing this whole journey together, we can keep rivers cleaner, healthier, and better for both wildlife and people. That’s why our work goes beyond rivers. We plant trees, create woodlands, engineer wetlands, restore peat bogs, gather data, deliver education sessions, collaborate with community groups, and much more! All these efforts are connected through rivers, which act as the thread weaving together different habitats and landscapes. By working with communities across various environments, we can strengthen this web of habitats, with rivers tying it all together, from source to sea #CatchmentBasedApproach #CaBA #HabitatConnectivity #Rivers #RiverRestoration
