Modelling the future rights of nature in South Yorkshire. #TheRiverDon
About us
The project aims to demonstrate the potential impacts of obtaining legal personhood for the River Dôn. This has been achieved in several other countries (New Zealand, Ecuador, Spain and India), but not yet in the UK. By innovating the current legal ownership and governance model, we aim to create the conditions for new legal, economic and democratic frameworks for the rights of nature in South Yorkshire. In attaining enhanced rights for the River Dôn we want to change the way we interact with and value the river - socially, economically, politically and environmentally.

That's a wrap for Flow State at #NoBoundsFestival2024. We had over 350 visitors at Yorkshire Artspace Exchange Place Studios across the weekend. Thank you to everyone who came to see the work. Massive thanks to Noémie Soula for her support during the install, to Keith Fildes and Rachel Scarfe for invigilating while we were open, and to Amy Carter Gordon, Lauren McConnell and Liam O'Shea for the opportunity to present this work as part of a really impressive programme. Congratulations to all artists involved! The River Dôn Project

Delighted to be curating The River Dôn Project arts and culture strand in partnership with Opus Independents - these four river walks form part of a year-long cultural engagement programme. Funded by the Sheffield Hallam Research and Innovation Fund, the free walks will bring artist-researchers, stakeholders and members of local communities along the Don together to consider the rights of nature and our many, entangled connections to the river. Special thanks to Lauren McConnell, producer and Alban Krashi project lead. Join us: https://lnkd.in/ewRyCwuv. The release also features the dates of our up-coming exhibition at Kelham Island Museum 13-16 March 2025 and will feature a very special public art installation. More soon!
