Robot Talk is taking a break over the summer, so let's take a look back at Season 4! In May, Claire talked to Estelle Raffy about animal behaviour, #intelligence, and life-like artificial systems. Estelle is a PhD student at the University of Bristol, researching the ingredients for adaptive, 'life-like' behaviours in novel artificial systems. Claire chatted to Prof. Steve Benford about #art, dance, and #cat-sitting #robots. Steve is the Dunford Professor of Computer Science at the University of Nottingham where he co-founded The Mixed Reality Laboratory. His research explores artistic applications of digital technologies. Claire talked to Prof. Margarita Chli about vision, #navigation, and small #aerial drones. Margarita is director of the Vision for Robotics Lab at the University of Cyprus and ETH Zürich, where she is developing vision-based perception capabilities for robots, focussing on small aerial drones. Claire spoke to Dr. Mario Di Castro about robotic #inspection and #maintenance in hazardous environments. Mario is Leader of the Mechatronics, Robotics and Operations Section at CERN, where he works on robotic systems for remote maintenance at the particle accelerator complex. Claire chatted to Isabelle Ormerod about human-centred design. Isabelle is a PhD student at the Bristol Robotics Laboratory and part of the Leadership team of #WomenInRobotics UK. Her research leverages data-driven human factors approaches in robotics product #design. In June, Claire spoke to Lord Ara Darzi about robotic #surgery - past, present and future. Lord Darzi is Co-Director of the Institute of Global Health Innovation and holds the Paul Hamlyn Chair of Surgery. In 2002, he was knighted for his services to #medicine and surgery. He leads a large, multidisciplinary academic and policy research team. Claire chatted to Prof. Simone Schuerle about #microrobots, medicine and science. Simone leads the Responsive Biomedical System Lab at ETH Zürich. She develops #diagnostic and therapeutic systems at the nano- and microscale to tackle challenging problems in #medicine.
