Rotherham Council has stepped up its commitment to ensure that local businesses and employers benefit from its spending. The Council has partnered with Go4Growth, an organisation that helps businesses and voluntary sector organisations to access public sector contracts. With a spend of over £400m per annum on public services, goods and products, the Council currently buy from a large pool of suppliers and since October 2019 its policy has been to try to increase the number of those in the local area. Major hotel chain Travelodge has officially opened Travelodge Rotherham Central – the town’s first branded hotel – at the new landmark leisure destination Forge Island. Travelodge Rotherham Central, a 69-room hotel, is the first occupier to open at Forge Island – a once-derelict site now transformed into a family-friendly destination being delivered in partnership with Rotherham Council and nationwide placemaker, Muse. A special ribbon-cutting ceremony took place this week led by Council Leader Cllr Chris Read and Travelodge’s UK Director of Development, Tony O’Brien, to mark this major milestone which represents a multi-million-pound investment for the town. Rotherham’s Annual Jobs and Careers Fair will return to Magna on Monday 18 November! Now in its 12th year, LEAF provides a great opportunity for students and jobseekers to find out about vacancies and career choices in the Rotherham area. The event will include workshops and up to 60 exhibitors. Visitors can find out about current and upcoming vacancies as well as volunteering opportunities. Students can also discuss potential career paths and apprenticeships/internships with businesses. • If you would like to exhibit at LEAF24 please email: Vicki.Norman@rotherham.gov.uk for further details.
